Solo play is good so far and seems to get better as you go along. You start off wondering if it was worth it but the beach landing mission soon makes you want to play on and it gets better (I particularly liked the Staligrad sniping mission). There are some nice touches, flame throw a machine gun nest and the ammunition boxes catch alight making the ammo go off but not just an explosion, bullets whiz out.
Online I'm not so sure it's a COD4 beater but it could be, I need to give it more time. I've only played two maps and like some of the COD4 maps it could be the maps I was on weren't great. Some may disagree but Airfield is big and sniping too easy (that was with me sniping so not sour grapes). Courtyard is similar in style to COD4's Showdown map which again is one I'm not keen on.
All in all if you liked COD4 you'll like COD5, it's just COD4 but a different era, and that's not a bad thing.

Got it delivered yesterday morning from Game!

Unfortunately work sort of got in the way so didn't get to play it until last night but it's much better than the beta led me to believe. The maps are great, similar in some ways to COD3 in that they're quite big and open but still with lots of cover.

Fantastic and much better than COD4 IMHO.

I bought Farcry and GOW2 in the last couple of weeks but i think i'll stick em on the bay cause they ain't going to get a look-in.

Well done, I onykl got as far as 8 in the 2 hours I was on last night! Did manage a 1.61 kill:death ratio though which I was chuffed with

Bought at lunch and just had a quick 20min game on singleplayer.

It doesn't 'feel' as good as COD4 imo on first play. You feel like you're floating around, instead of walking. Anyone else think this?

Guns aren't as good... but then that increases the realism of WW2. If a WW2 rifle was as good as a M16... then that would just be weird.

Finished the solo match. IMHO it was OK with some decent highlights e.g. the sections with flame throwers but nothing to 'blow you away'.

For me what's at the very end is far more interesting and fun..... I won't spoil it.

It seems the solo play on this and GOW2 are not as good as the last versions. Perhaps the game studios are focussing more on the online/multi player aspects instead.

Best get my butt online at some point then.... cannon fodder anyone? wink

Singleplayer question...

I got to the airfield last night. Going past loads of checkpoints. Started it up today and the last save place is at the start of that mission back in the swamp confused

Do checkpoints only count during a game... but you have to finish a mission to get a save point?

Or is it because I was playing offline last night?
