Introduction to watches...

Looking to get a 'decent' watch, say around £200 or a bit more. I like the look of the Christopher Ward C4 Peregrine, does anyone have other recommendations to look at similar to that?

the C4 Peregrine is a lovely looking watch no doubt - I really like the silver face and brown strap one. You could also look at Precista (sold through Time Factors) - they have a good reputation though they are less 'pretty' or if you wander over to the TZ UK forum there are plenty of second hand watches to go at.

£200 will open a huge market place with some really nice watches in it - happy hunting!

Go second hand, get yourself a nice old mechanical watch. Prob get a 70s Omega or Tudor on ebay.

Any particular thoughts on the sort of style of watch you'd like, or what you'll wear it for? CommanderJameson has a Christopher Ward coming, and I'm tempted too.

Recovered yet? Bet the office didn't look too chirpy on Monday morning!!

I want something like the C4, as it's the style I'm used to. Probably wear it for 'normal' use when I know it won't be destroyed - I'll use my old watch for 'risky' events. I also have a Waltham dress watch for better occasions - I was given it for my 21st, need to find out some more info on it at some point - I don't know what it is!

Google is your friend on Waltham. Not a company I know a great deal about, but they seem to have some nice watches, many with C.O.S.C certificates. Yours any of these?

As for your watch, have a look at www.chronomaster.co.uk as he has plenty of interesting stuff with that chrono/diver style that won't cost thousands. If you're prepared to go used for your money, check out somewhere like tz-uk.com for inspiration, and then their sales corner for actual kit to buy. You could pick up some good stuff for your budget.

I'm in pretty much the same camp - i.e. looking for my first proper watch and looking to spend about £200. Dont's really want to go down the secondhand route myself just yet as I don't really know what to look for.

I had been loking at all sorts including the CW7 but have decided that a) If I get a chrono watch I'll probably play with the chrono for for first week and then never touch it again once the novelty has worn off, and b) I like the idea of getting an auto - feels more like a proper watch and really cool if the've got a display back.

I came across the Tissot PRS516 just recently. Not sure if this is the style you're looking for, but IMHO they look great on either leather or a bracelet.
