For those not in the know, he was the drummer in the Jimi Hendrix Experience. Fantastic player and great rock 'n roll veteran. Purple Haze indeed.

Was gonna say 'who'? Too young, ye see, but thanks for the linky. Will have to go have a search.

Slightly O/T but what are people's opinions on Hendrix then? Overrated? Genuine revolutionary? An off-his-head spangle? hippy

Whatcha think? All he's cracked up to be? music

Definitely lives up to the legend, only wish he'd survived long enough to record that album with Miles Davis.

NB Don't mix booze and barbiturates.

An absolute legend! Even now, 38 years after his death, he is inspiring my 14 year old son to play a guitar. My son and I batter the car speakers on a regular basis to hendrix music

Woops forgot about the purpose of this thread paperbag
Sorry to hear the drummer died.

Just heard the news on the radio, very sad - RIP Mitch.

I saw the Jimi Hendrix Experience live on April 11 1967, it was an evening I have never forgotten, absolutely mind blowing.

legend of a drummer - RIP mitch

and yes, pick up an electric guitar and try to play a Hendrix song and you will soon understand why he was such a genius.

frown RIP Mitch

Fantastic drummer, and the last surviving member of one of the most influential (and IMO best) bands ever. A sad loss to the music world frown

Apparently the chap was very very down to earth according to a few books I've read, just as happy playing in his local pub as big events.

RIP.

ETA: Actually I think I was thinking of Noel Redding. Didn't know he'd died as well.

RIP all three.

"Mitch Mitchell has a girl called Gloria"

He will always be immortalised for me in that song.

OMG! I didn't realise Noel Redding had died too - in 2003!

What a pity they are all gone now to the great big jam in the sky

I believed Dylan acknowledged it to be the best cover of one of his songs and rated it better than his own version.

Still the music lives on smile. I love listening to Jimi Hendrix, tend to think he's very under rated rather than over rated when compared to others of the same era?
