Takuma Sato.

"BAR-Honda has confirmed that Takuma Sato has been promoted from test driver to a race seat alongside Jenson Button in 2004. Team principal David Richards applauded outgoing driver Jacques Villeneuve's efforts but admitted it was an appropriate time to refresh the driver line-up".

Lost my bet, I had 4-1 on Mr Bean.

Can't say it really bothers me either way. To my mind its a not very good driver replacing and arrogant and not very good driver in an not very good team.

Unless they can sort out reliability next season, it won't matter who's driving, as long as they're good at parking on the grass!

No Sato drove for Jordan last year and Ralph Firman replaced him.

oh well, different car, same person

I wonder why they chose him, probably didn't have that much choice after this years performance!

I think what pwig meant to say was

Sato has trouble maintaining the stability of his vehicle!

He enjoys visitng the scenery and trying to join other drivers in their cockpit!

PS: identity crisis over, pwig?

If only there was on option for Mclaren to run three cars.

Kimi goes for the title
DC does the PR, drives about claiming to be in with a chance of the title whilst doing secret testing for Kimi
JV has third car and his only goal is to make MS life a misery.

Honestly if I was Ron D I would kick Dc out and replace him with JV. Jumped up little oik he maye be but I bet he would drive for peanuts if he was given a car and winning a title would be better PR than a wide jawed scot could ever give.

Perhaps not, the reason is he is leaving BAR is because he would not accept a pay cut.

Ah,I was under the impression that he might have for a decent drive (not sure where I got that from though, maybe I was dreaming again).

Agree 100000000000%

DC is shit. Get rid. Talk of JPM coming next year is still rife and i hope its true, however JV would be an excellent alternative. Not many people out there that drive with their nuts off each race now is there...

Takuma Sato's career to date-

After Karting in Japan,

1999 EFDA Formula Opel Euroseries - 6th
2000 British F3 Championships (Carlin) - 3rd
2001 British F3 Championship - Champion 12 wins out of 13
2001 Marlboro Masters of F3 at Zandvoort - 1st
2001 Macau F3 Grand Prix - 1st

So he's not really a plodder, just had a rough time in the Jordan last year, in which he did finish a very creditable 5th in the Japanese GP.

He is Japan's best prospect for a GP win after all.
