In Portsmouth.
Was out walking his dog, tried to break up an argument bewteen a Lady and two men.
The men turned on him and kicked him in the head until he was dead. He was 36 years old.

The saddest thing of all is the fact that this isn't shocking news to the masses anymore.

Sad to read.

Good point actually.
I posted my "shame" comment in the "so what?" sense- but on second thoughts your way of saying it was much better.

It is.
I spoke to my Brother last night. Another of his friends used to be best mates with Brett. He told my Bro that they had absolutely wrecked his head to the extent his jaw was literally hanging off.
Manslaughter anyone?

Pretty straight forward - but probably won't happen in our current society... frown

While our justice system hands down 2 months supervision orders for robbery and a slap on the wrist for burglary, we will never get to the bottom of the rise in violent crime in the UK. I am not an advocate of 'lock em up' but there must be something that we can do to sort this out.

I really hope so.
But with the way courts go these days, who knows?

What does that actually mean?
Not 'manslaughter' obviously-I know what that means- but putting a phrase like 'manslaughter anyone?' in the middle of a paragraph. I have never really understood that.
Are you offering manslaughter to the masses? If so-how does that work?
Hypothetically-If I wanted to accept your manslaughter (which I don't obviously) do I just pm you my details?
But then if I did that and you popped round to deliver my manslaughter-would the 'arrangement' element of this crime not render it actual murder?
confused

Is it really? Or is it just promoted further up the headlines due to being in reporting fashion?

A few years ago it was paedophilia, for example.

I'm sure you know exactly what I meant, but I'll make it clearer for you just in case.
I was asking if people thought the killers would get off with a charge of Manslaughter.
I was not offering my services as a hitman. You git!

You evidently don't really care about this case or the people involved in it, why are you aiming such unpleasant comments at someone who has just come on here to express his anger and upset over a mindless crime perpetrated by some feral thugs?

yeah, could well be the case
I remember there were big pub fights every weekend when I was young (I was even in one or two of them)

there just seems to have been quite a few of these "stranger kicked to death" cases lately

it should never be tolerated, even so

violent criminals is what prisons are for, put them in there, for a long time

I'm sure a certain % of it is down to better / more frequent reporting, and t'intermnet. News of what happens in Portsmouth isn;t big news around here, but I just read it on here.

To be honest it will only get worse...
...exponentially as those uncontrolables with no sense of right or wrong raise kids and then they raise kids and then and then...

Doubt we're even half way there yet.

To me, one of the more frightening elements of mass press promotion of these events, is that it 'normalises' them in the eyes of those who might be prone to a bit of violence.

How many youths in London felt they were underprotected without carrying a knife before it became a daily headline?

Just like a recession, an issue can be self perpetuating if the press coverage is completely out of proportion to the original problem.
