What is it with the Monaro and headlight bulbs?? I've just had yet another one blow, that must be the tenth one in 4 and a half years of ownership. I've never had any other car eat bulbs so much. They blow so much that I've run out of spare modified H9s and had to put in one of the old H11s I kept for emergencies. The popper things that hold the radiator trim in place are wearing out and my knuckles are getting callouses from constantly fettling about in tight spaces. I even had to buy a cheap tool kit to carry in the car because when the driver's side one goes you have to move the battery to replace it, FFS!

Still the best car I've ever owned though biggrin

Anyone else been through a shedload of bulbs?

Edited to get my H9s and H11s the right way round ;D

I've not had any go on me, however I have noticed that the 6.0 ls2 Monaro VXR has H11 as standard (99% sure). I went and got H9's from Half'frauds and bought the super bright uber magic editions, however when I got around to removing the plastic trim the bulbs were already H9s and H11s

Any ideas what I need to do to make the VXR brighter? I've already modded the height adjuster and wound it up a bit

I'm not keen on HIDs as someone said they after market ones were illegal on UK cars, I could be wrong on that one.

I was going to say that mine are three years old and never changed one yet, but I though better of it, because you can be sure I would've put the mockers on them!!!

For what its worth I used to have Vaux Senator - dim, dim bulbs - the extra bright bulbs made little difference; just dim! The wiring dropped about 1 1/2 volts from the battery. When I put a relay in to bypass all the cheap thin wiring and connectors it made a big difference.

Try measuring the volts from the battery to the bulb terminal, the car makers save a few cents by using less copper. From what I recall the bulb light output is a function of the lampo voltage to the power 4.5, so a small volt drop effects a big change in light output.

AFAIK HiD's are illegal on UK cars unless the vehicle is fitted with self-levelling suspension (e.g. some BMW's), you also need the big round type lamp in the car to focus the beam properly (which all Monaro's DO have)
As I understand it they are fitted with HiD's as standard in Aus, but were put to bulbs for the UK market for the reason above...
Return to standard fitment anyone?
