I have just been going through the local Customs requirements when it comes to importing a car into Australia. If the car comes in complete then I have to obtain import approval from the Department of Infrastructure and transport. Basically they will probably say no to it as it is essentially taking business away from local industry. If they agree then another lot of hoops needs to be jumped through to get it registered.
The other option I have found is if the car arrives in the country as parts. It then does not need import approval. Once its hear I could then re-assemble the car and register it as an individually constructed vehicle, the same as any other GT40, Cobra or Lotus 7 would be.
In order to bring the car in as parts I quote from customs
“For these goods to be considered as parts they must be imported with at least the engine, transmission and all wheels and axles removed and these components must not be shipped on the same vessel; ”
For simplicity I would assume that axles also means stub axles and wheel bearings. That way customs cant pull me up once it arrives.
Thus I would require someone/business in the UK that could complete the following.
Drain all fluids
Evacuate Air conditioner
Disconnect battery
Remove shock absorbers on all four corners of the car
Remove steering tie rod joints from wishbones
Disconnect brake hose from each calliper
Disconnect emergence brake / handbrake cable from each rear calliper.
Remove rear drive shafts from wishbones and transaxles
Disconnect four wishbone bolts per corner of car
Remove engine and transaxle (multiple connections fuel, water and electrical, exhaust.)
Package car less engine, transaxle, driveshaft’s and wheels/suspension components on pallet,
Package remaining items on another pallet
Transfer to shipping terminal.
Does anyone know of someone that could do the above?

Hi Ryan, sorry can not help with the shipping, but very interested to read your post as I may well be in a similar position in 2010.
At first, taking the car apart sounds pretty drastic but then I thought about all the changes and cleaning I could do making it sound quite attactive!
Do you know what the tax/import duties are by doing it in parts, less than a complete car I assume?

There is a local rally car build company who regualy do this here build and test a new rally car then strip it back down then ship, don't know if they would be intrested but it might be worth checking out, company is Harry Hockley Motorsport +44 1686 623929, main issue is not the work its packing it right.

Car will have to be steam cleaned for quarantine purposes whichever route you go.
If you pull it apart you may have to make other engineering changes to meet the ADRs applicable at the time you bring it in. You will be up to the mercy of the engineering signatory who certifies it as acceptable. For instance if I was to bring one in I may have to shift seat belt mounting points and will most probably have to install an LS series engine.
If you immigrate you have the option of importing one car every 12 months providing you have owned the car for 12 months or more whilst you were actually living in the UK. Its just the impart duties and stuff you have to pay, which I think will be the same as if you bring it in as parts. Don’t know on this yet, still looking into it. (i.e. work college is sorting it out at the moment on a prius he has imported)

Ive sent a few cars back to OZ.
If its over 15 years old you dont pay tax.
If its under 15 and you have lived overseas and the car registered in your name for more than 12 months - you dont pay the tax.
The car needs to be tested unless it is the same as a locally made model. Not sure how they view kit cars. Id check with local forums.
Never had to get a car steam cleaned.
