I blame them. It's all the fault of beer and cricket.

I may have indulged in too much of both during the run up to my A-levels, consequently dropped a grade or two, and now it's come back to get me.

Just because I got a C in Physics, Rolls Royce won't even let me register for their bloody recruitment website. Bloody bds. Never mind the fact that I made up for it at university, they want a B at A-level.

Wnakers.

Remember kids, always learn your speelings. You never know when one cock up might come back to get you.

But seriously, does anyone have an email address for someone in HR at RR? I just want to ask if it really makes that much difference?

Or I could just lie on the form I suppose.....

That'll 'B' the one then. It's quite possible to muddle up your A level grades - did you get a B in something else? You could swap them over then claim it was an honest mistake IF they ever bothered to find out

Just lie on the form.
Then you get to show off the "you" to them and they can see for themselves if they want you for "you" or not.

Ah. Any good? Where did you end up? Or are you not there yet?

Just out of interest, what degree did you get?

Anyway, I've found an email address, conveniently located under the "Contact us" menu on the website, so I'll sling the CV over and see what they say.

Why would you want to join the fur lined rut?

Graduate recruitment is not the only route in. You have two options really. 1. work out which area you fit in and contact someone in that area and ask to have a look around / talk about working there. If they like you and they have vacancies they may accept an app direct rather than going via GS. 2. call HR direct and speak to them and discuss the issue explaining why they should make an exception - your other skills/experience will need to make up for the poor a-levels though.

To put it into context, I used to work there - I left as a Principal - and I had three grade Ds at A level hehe ETA and none of them were in Physics, and they asked if I would do the "Greenwich Course" rofl They must have been mad.

TBH, the competition for the GRS is extremely high, all tend to have a 1st and excellent A-Levels though. My advice would be to apply via direct app.

Well, I've been here since 89 at the Bristol site. So I'm a lifer, it's pretty good. Have done all sorts from laboratory analysis work, component investigation and now engine health monitoring.
As for a degree I joined as a mech apprentice straight from school and they paid for all my college stuff. Wasn't a requirement to get one in my day so didn't bother. Stopped at HNC MechEng as I hate studying and hasnt held me back.

There is a recruitment freeze at the moment anyhow, so unless your a model student you have little to no chance I'm afraid.

Yeh thought as much. I've been away 2 months and the country's 'shat itself', as they'd say here in NZ. Dunno why I'm applying really. Hate the thought of a grad scheme, I'm not massively keen on being an engineer anymore and have no particular passion for turbines. I suppose I'm just sick of the sight of the inside of a tractor cab.....

Thing is, how do you get employed by a company like that without a grad scheme. Presumably it's all about who you know. Unfortunately, my dad is all nepotistically networked out. He got me my first summer job out of school, and that's pretty much everyone he knows.

soapbox

And while I'm here, why the fk does it take so long to apply for these bloody things. Had a day off work today, after getting home early from work last night (at 10pm), so instead of going to the Christchurch show and pissing it up all day like the rest of the lads, I thought I'd apply for a job at BP. It took me all fking day. And I'd been thinking about all the answers to their bloody stupid little questions all week, and had them all mostly written down. Spent most of my time filling in all my module marks. Why the fk do they need to know what I got in Control Engineering in the first year? Surely my overall grade will do.

I know no-one is listening, and if you are, you probably don't give two fks, I just needed to vent a little.

ETA just got this back when I tried to email over my CV.
