Did anyone see these this morning? As I was driving in(Beds and Herts)at about 08.15, there were 4 aircraft leaving a lovely set of railway lines across the sky as they flew in a loose V formation. They were heading sounth west - any ideas who they were? My first thoughts were a US fighter ferry flight but that is surely in the wrong direction? More Tonkers going to the Falklands?

I believe you may have seen four Italian Typhoons that left Coningsby this morning heading home. They went OTT at Heathrow and the question was asked on various forums.

Saw these in Ampthill (beds.).

Looked strange seeing something that high in formation, I was waiting for a mushroom cloud to be honest!!

Would have been nice to see. I saw two B-52s flying together over London once - during the Bosnian Crisis.

Sometime in the early 60s I was shopping in Kingston, Surrey. I'd just come out of Bentalls and people were getting very excited and pointing up at the sky.

One old chap shouted "The bomb's gone up, the bomb's gone up!"

I looked up and there were contrails all over the sky, it was how I imagine a dogfight from the Battle of Britain would have looked from the ground.

Turns out it was Farnborough Air Show weekend.
