These photos are of the Jaguar XKR 475, as tested by Clarkson, and reviewed in this weeks Sundays Times. He failed to really mention the awesome increase in power of the car,and was more interested in comparison with Kiera Knightley. She didnt have a great shape last time I saw her?
The drive will surely match the long awaited 5.0 litre XKR, and will undoubtedly be less expensive.

Hi Triple 7,

Its a 4.2 litre X150 model XKR with a series of harmonised upgrades. Most obviously, it is fitted with the Arden AJ20 Body conversion. The car has also been lowered, and it has bespoke 20" split rim alloys with increased offset. These are fitted with the standard size Jaguar tyres. The engine has a number of revisions enabling it to run safe, increased supercharger boost. This gives 455 BHP - and then the ECU is re-mapped specifically to the upgrade, increasing power to 475 BHP at 5,900 RPM. Torque is over 470 ft lbs between 3000 and 5000 RPM. (The figures were confirmed at Surrey Rolling Road Ltd). The large bore exhaust dispenses with the heavy OE Jaguar rear silencer and it is a carefully tuned twin system, which culminates in accoustic quad tailpipes - as per the photograph. This exhaust gives a standard XKR 12 bhp when fitted on its own (and it will also fit a normally aspirated XK). Its a shame that you can't hear it on this site ! Shades of Steve McQueen's Mustang in the film Bullitt.

Richard's XKR 475 is fast - very fast. It also handles, without spoiling the Jaguar ride (as Jeremy C confirmed). Equally importantly these days, the car achieves very good fuel consumption figures ! Under normal circumstances it will return 21-22 mpg. If the performance is exploited on the road, this can drop to 18 mpg. But,if you stay sort of legal on a Motorway run, you can average 27 mpg.

You were right, Gareth, it was converted by Racing Green Cars. And we would like to thank Richard for letting his XKR 475 go to Jeremy C for the Sunday Times article, and also for letting us display it at MPH 08 a couple of weekends ago. Interestingly, a "man from Jaguar" who saw it on the Racing Green Cars' Stand said the nose reminded him of something he had seen at the factory. Guess we will have to wait and see what that might be but, as Richard said, Jaguar's XKR 500 is bound to cost more than his XKR has done !

Best Regards, Chas

Hello this is my first ever posting so, there will be mistakes and things I do wrong. Go easy on me and I was never a good lad at school so I kind of wish any teacher out there good luck. I am like many people out there always thinking of the cars I will buy once my 6 numbers come in on that Saturday. I have this car on my list - very high up on my list I might add. In summer of this year there was a small car show at Ascot. I guess the connection there being BHP (I was going to write brake horse power but then realised which web site I was on). So yes this very different looking Jaguar was there. I like the look. Mr. Clarkson doesn’t. But I think that goes in my favour. But the power and sound from that car would put most prestige sports cars to shame. The best thing was that the car was near the beer tent, beer in one hand looking at one of my shopping list cars and then and I would say every now and then but NO there were so many people wanting to hear it that the car started more times than the horse manure man filled his bucket. I would like to let any soundtrack people out there know, if you need a V8 sound that I think is even better than the old faithful Aston Martin, then this is the car you need to get hold of.

Jeremy Clarkson Racing Green Jaguar XKR 475 review

Unfortunately, the effect of this is somewhat overshadowed by a horrible Arden body kit. Adding this kit, which costs £10,850, is a bit like nailing a plank of wood to Keira Knightley’s face. They couldn’t have done a worse job if they’d fitted the car with a selection of garden gnomes

forgets to pay due homage

Hi Madou,

Thanks for adding the link to the full review. I wasn't quite sure what you meant when you wrote "forgot to pay due homage ". Could you elaborate on that please ? By the way, what was the origin of the red sports car ? Porsche ?

As you have put up the link to Jeremy's Sunday Times report on Richard Griggs' XKR 475, I feel I should defend on his behalf by saying that the Arden bodywork upgrade may not be to every one's taste. And then again, Keira Knightley may not be everyone's idea of female perfection either. Personally, I preferred Kelly McGillis, the female star of Top Gun. But that's my taste, that was nearly 20 years ago, and maybe Jeremy wouldn't have liked her either.

JC also criticised the quad exhaust - not on acceleration, but when the car is cruising. Neither the owner of the car nor I have ever noticed any drone in the cruise, but maybe our hearing is less highly tuned than Jeremy's !

He did like the engine power - without question - but the price the article gave for the Water Methanol injection actually covered the full engine upgrade - including the mods to the engine, the full exhaust system and the water Methanol - all fitted and including VAT. So that's a bargain then !

The bottom line about the whole thing is that this is an upgraded XKR - and it was built to the personal specification of the owner, in several stages. The end result is that he now owns a very potent and very reliable car that looks different to any other XKR in the UK - so far. And he got it for less money than he would have had to spend to buy an equivalent Aston. So that's a result then !

And Jeremy did make the point that the same result can be achieved using a pre-owned car rather than a new one, which makes owning a unique XKR a pretty affordable option. So that's a recommendation then !

WBR Chas

Hello , im getting more into this now I never noticed a drone either. I noticed the hairs on my arms and neck stand on end when the car was no tick over, and when the gas pedal was pushed to the floor I was thinking re mortgaging. Mr Clarkson talked of a drone maybe he should spend a day in a car with my wife….. IS THAT WHAT YOU MEAN BY HOMAGE.
