Long-term jobs - What keeps you?
Discussion
Following on from the 'how long have you been in your current job' thread, I've noticed the majority of posters have been in their jobs for 3+ years and most have expressed a like for it.
So what it is about these long term jobs that keep you there, and makes you enjoy it?

There is a lot to be said for all that. You may never be as rich as you could be but it also gives you a richness of life when you don't spent 15hrs a day at your work.Good people around me

Paid enough. A little more than 1x my age, not lots, not anything like the sort of money that tonker was saying 24 year olds get in the other thread though, but enough to run the mortgage and the Boxster.
35 hour week that is a genuine 35 hour week, not + 2 to 3 hours each evening and weekends. Think I've worked at weekends twice in 17 years.
Relaxed working environment, no politics, no jostling for promotion, no staying late to be seen, no stress if you arrive late or leave early, provided you make up the time and so on.
Get on well with my employer and everyone here.
No IT department to get in the way, if a computer breaks the person using it is expected to take it apart and try to fix it, if they want a piece of software installed they are expected to install it themselves (our office administrator is excused from this as if her computer breaks the salaries don't get paid, so we all help out there). I set internet access policy (by default as no-one else will touch the router for fear of breaking something), which means there are no restrictions on anything
. As I said a relaxed environment, no silly "corporate policy" nonsense.

Fantastic semi-rural location
Able to walk to/from work (saves me a fortune)
Strong business despite the wider economic climate
Shame the pay is sh*t… but it would take a lot to make me leave because a better paid job elsewhere would have to pay significantly more for me to be better-off after the inevitable longer and more expensive commute had been factored-in, and besides, I’m starting to feel that, at last, I have some really exciting opportunities starting to develop where I am now. I’m currently more interested in where I work than I was when I first started 11 years ago!
