I guess this is what i am seeing along the A47.

I was amazed when the things were sparkling away in my wing mirrors after i had passed by.

Anyone else seen them? Or have they been around for ages?

I've seen those on the A420 between Oxford and Swindon.... REALLY SPOOKED me when I looked in my mirror and saw all the road lit up. Damn clever idea.

Yup ... on the A31 through Ropley too ... I keep seeing them and intending to post up here about em but keep forgetting.

Really wierd when you look in the rear view mirror and they're still white!

Hi RCA. They are up near the Leicester end. Skeffington i think. They have made quite a few changes to the road markings over the past couple of months.

Only seen you once on the A47. I am on it nearly every day as well. Long road i guess! And a bit too busy to turn your lights off but i will try.

OK, I'm going to be revolutionary here...
Do we really need solar-powered catseyes? ie: what was wrong with the old passive ones? Do I need to be able to see the bit of road I've just come from? How long before the cells die? Whatever, they must cost many times more than the normal ones - is it a fair use of your taxes?
Just a thought

Of course, the fact you can see them in your mirror is irrelevant, thats not the reason for them. They can be seen from much further away as they dont rely on on reflecting your headlights thus giving you a much better idea of the road layout ahead. Also they mark out the whole of a bend, i.e. not just the bit in front within the range of your headlights. Why do you think the new BMW's have copied the old citroen idea of the headlights that move from side to side with the steering wheel? So you can see round bends. Well these road markers help you to see round bends without having to fork out ££££ on a new BMW

I've gotta say that I find the sight of them snaking off behind me in the blackness of the rear view mirror kinda trippey in a "Flashback in Natural Born Killers" kinda way...
