Has anyone taken their Mountain Bike in a bike bag on any of the 'lost cost' airlines like Jet2 ?

I'm thinking of taking my bike out to Spain in Jan but can't find any details on how much extra I'll need to pay in Excess luggage costs to take a bike bag ?

Also, do bike bags do a good job of protecting frames etc whilst in the hands of teh airlines ?

BA will let you take a bike for free, as long as it's not over their weight limit (23kg now, I think). When I flew to Geneva this year I packed my bike in a Chainreaction bag, with a cardboard bike box inside it. It survived completely unscathed smile

I asked a similar question back in June and had loads of horror stories - however 8 of us went with sleazy jet all bikes were in bags sensibly padded etc and not one of us had any problems or were we charged XS baggage .All I can say is pack it well and get to the airport very early.
