Just a quick question, wondering if anyone has fitted wider tyres on a standard rim to try and get some extra grip? Only i often find the MR2 too understeery so was thinking of going 205/50/15s rather than 195/55/15s as standard.

Any thoughts?

My wife's car is an MR2 Mk2 and has had 205/55/15s on since she bought it 3 years ago. Great handling.

i went from standard to 205's on the front helped a bit but still udersteers too much especially in the wet, what tyres you are using as well plays its part after all you get what you pay for!

You should be able to get 205's on the front no problem, I've got 205 front 235 rear on my aftermarket wheels and it seems to be a good set-up. Most MR2's I see with standard rims tend to have 205 front 225 rear.

Tah for responses lads, looks like i'll go for a set of 205s.

Currently on the car are Avon ZV3s, i expect i'll replace them for Toyo T1-Rs like i've got on the back unless there are any recommendations? To be honest when i got the car it had Nankangs on the back - i thought 'wow they must be crap' so got rid when they started to wear for the Toyos, and i can't say i've noticed much, if any, difference!

Cheers,
Rob.
