Bored of Career path... Need an exciting one!
Discussion
Im still reletivly young at almost 26... Now a newly qualified Accountant, and i hate it!!!
I am sooo bored and there is nothing i find more frightening than sitting at that desk doing the same crap for the rest of my life.
Ok so maybe i am over exaggerating on the rest of my life, but quite a lot of people in my office have been there since they were 17-18, now in their 40-50's. Dont really like it either, but they have never moved.
So i ended up looking for new jobs in accountancy, maybe joining industry or financail services, and have come to the conclusion that it will be just as boring, but in a different place.
So want a completely new career! Wanted to join the RAF and Navy as a pilot, but im now too old and they will not entertain me as i will be over the maximum age for entry for pilot training. Gutted!
To be honest its almost at the stage where i will just join the marines.
Been looking for a whole new path, but there doesnt seem to be anything that excites me which is a shame, but i also lack imagination!
Anyone have any ideas on dangerous or exciting careers, that my feeble imagination has not thought of?

Aren't they quite difficult to get into? I'm assuming you are "just" joining as an officer. Did you actually pass any of the RN or RAF pilot selection?

I didnt get to do any of the selection, i was speaking the careers people at the RAP and RN, and they would not entertain an application because by the time i would have finished the 50 weeks officer training i would be too old to start the professional part of the training (flight training). So was just told if i want to join it would have to be as something else.

I'm in exactly the same position as you. I've just taken a stewards step out of pure accountancy and got onto the ground so to speak. I've started volunteering and find it really rewarding. The area I financially manage is quite varied so there is the scope to do it. Problem is that the people I work with volunteer to and everyone sees me as the numbers guy. So we usually end up sorting out work issues outside of work.
Finance can be fun. Would love to get into the finance behind films and big tours etc.

Whatever you do now - chances are you will feel the same when you reach 32 and I've been told to expect it to happen a few more time after that!
I do a job that I LOVE... but after doing it for 8 years I can't help thinking that I'd like to try something else - just don't know what that 'something else' is!
I'm a firm believer that your life should be a rich tapestry of things that you have at least tried.
