recomended oil?

does everyone use shell oil as recomended, spoke to mole vally they wanted £130 for the oil, being in the trade i no it is a total joke, please dont say mobil 1 as i hate the stuff!! and if anyone has got ford part no handy for the oil filter that would be handy, thanks

Go to a trade motor factor you should be able to get a 20 Litre drum for less.

I use either the Motul 10W40 or what I've just put in Silkolene 10W50 I think it is. Both proper Fully synthetic (Ester) oils.

I thought the factory reccomendation was Shell Helix Ultra 5W40?

The engine builder I use for my race car underwrites his work and insists we use Valvoline VR1 20/50 (the engine design is 1960's so uses a mineral oil). We've never had a "build/wear/cooling" problem in 10 years so he's been right so far!

Valvoline do a racing spec SYN Power 5W30 fully synthetic oil. Has anyone any experience with this? If it works and if the VR1 prices are anything to go by (I pay less than £20 for 5 litres) it may be worth a look.

Without a shadow of a doubt, if you're engine is ran in fully say over 10k miles, stuck to a fully synthetic (Tri-ester) of or around the recommended viscosity. If you cant find exactly the right Viscosity, as it's winter, go for a slightly lighter oil, probably a 5W.

Motul 300V range
Silkolene Pro S range
Royal Purple (if you can find it)

These are the best ones out there.

Yep Opie suggested the Silkolene especially considering the high oil temps that can be seen on track.

Before you sg off Moley too much, it's ~£50-60 in Halfords for the appropiate Mobile 1 stuff and you'll need two 5l to fill a M400.

That said, I got a 20l tub of Shell Ultra Helix for just under £100 from trade which is what I use.
