HOME MADE ELECTRIC FAN CONVERSION

I have recently fitted a home-made electric fan conversion to my series 2a (but the concept would work with any vehicle with positively driven fan).

It was easy enough to wander around the breakers yard and source an electric fan from a more modern car (I used one from a Honda Civic - as the bracets were well placed to be 'adapted'. The tricky bit was the temperature sensing bit which makes the fan work when the engine temp increases (I guess this is why Kenlowe can charge a fortune for their system). I got around this by using a Fod Mondeo top hose. This is a very similar shape to my 2a's, but it incorporates a threaded 'T' to accept a standard sized temp sensor. I fitted this and used a parts list from Halfords to select a sensor which would trigger the fan at the lowest temperature I could find (to be safe) - this turned out to be from a Passat diesel!

It all works fine, and with a couple of sleeves made from tube, this 'T' could be let into any hose from any vehicle.

Sounds interesting. It is on my 'to-do list' for my S3.

I use adjustable thermostats, simply strap to a hose and dial in the temperature. I will do a similar mod to the 90 that i have done to the TVR, half speed fans then full speed if needed.
