Trimming perspex windows to size

Hi peeps,

Just starting to fit my side screens into the doors and they dont fit... What is the best way of trimming off 3-4mm without butchering? Any tips?

Also do you fit the helicopter vents into the screen first, or is it easier to cut the hole afterwards?

Use a belt sander mounted sideways

You can use a Angle grinder with a Flap disc but only just kiss the plastic lightly and only a little at a time, as to not heat it up and melt it.......

I put a Radius on the inner edge as the window aperture has a radius in the corner, you might find it will then fit better.... try to take the least of the window as you can.... looks better...

Are you sure you really need to trim them down?
If you trim them too far the PU sealant will be rather obtrusive. Radius the back edge so the the perspex sits down into the radius of the moulding and see how that looks.

I would advise against using any power tool for this as it is very easy to remove too much and a slip will do irreparable damage.

Agree with using a variable speed bench mounted belt sander at a slow speed. Mine were perfect after 1/16" sealing tape was fitted to the window.

Think long and hard before you close your windows for good. You will miss a great sound and give up a chance to cool your car without a/c (they occasionaly fail). Look at the photos under my name on the USA site for details on how this is done.
