Following on from the discussion on the 'China to drop GP' thread about how new F1 tracks are basically rubbish, what tracks would be on your calendar?

Not sure that the modern Le Mans is that much of a circuit. I'd sooner have Circuit de Charade (Clermont Ferrand), or even Dijon. How about A1 Ring and Brands Hatch?

Oulton Park, full circuit with all the chicanes (only because Cadwell Park's too narrow, although I'd love to see them down the Gooseneck and up the Mountain).

No that's true, but I just loved the idea of seeing F1 cars on the loop that takes the cars back to the purpose built Circuit from the end of the Mulsanne 'Straight'.

The other one I thought of, but couldn't remember the name (Assen?) is the one on MotoGP with The Waterfall - that huge hill down towards a fast left-hander.

EDIT: Brands Hatch would have been great, with the old Dingle Dell.

Why Donington. Must be a nationalistic thing. I don't think there's anything to suggest it would provide a particularly good spectacle.

Brands is a fabulous spectators' venue. Facilites are a bit off, and access not great but Donington's access is terrible.

And if you think any of the top UK non GP circuits would retain any of their best bits in order to make FIA Grade 1 status you really need to think again.

Monaco at night, with no floodlighs so the only option for the teams would be fking the aero up with huge rally car lamps ) Even better do a single 12hr race at Monaco, still 2 drivers per team but 1 car per team, like a mini Le Mans for F1

I don't think that proves anything. Any circuit can seem exciting in the rain and practically every circuit will have one classic moment in the youtube library.

Fair point. Although Donington has created some great races in many categories over the years - and there are some great corners: Craner Curves, Coppice, Starkey's.

Oh yeah, and the circuit choices are based on the idea that they are raced at in their current form, rather than in bastardised F1 form.

Indeed, to bring the Nordschleife up to the characterless, anodyne FIA standard of utter tediousness, you'd have to start by razing a rather substantial mountain, and filling in the valleys around it.
