My son was given a tomtom one by his girlfriend however she pulled the sim out while it was loading or something and it has lost all the maps. I am going to buy one for myself tomorrow so would it be possible to download its map to my pc using tomtom home and then back onto my sons tomtom or copy across from sim to tomtom?

Ah, it seems the cards are twinned with a device and thus non transferable, can't even save to the pc and copy to another sim.

Looks like he'll have to buy a new map, trouble is we will have 2 devices soon and one pc so how do we manage to avoid backing up and downloading to the wrong device and locking out the sim?

They lock by Device ID - you won't lock out any other devices, just whatever device you download the maps to will be the owner of those maps, if you subsequently plug the other device in, it will complain saying that "The content is not for the connected device" or something like that smile

Tomtom tech support are quite helpful, I would have thought they would have helped sort out the problem on your son's device. If not, isn't it new enough to take it back?

if it's a tomtom one using an sd card, it's gonna be 2 years old at the very least.
