Hi all,

Well as the car is my regular hack now i don't get much time to rip it to bits. So it decided to have ago itself.

The clutch pedal just fell out!!! The piston that goes from the pedal it self up into the slave cylinder has come loose and i don't know what that means!!!! Also, if I leave my foot resting on the pedal it falls to the floor, ie looses pressure. A quick pump brings it back up ehem!!

Any ideas....

Cheers,
Mike

CLutch master cylinder is probably shagged.

It might just be that the circlip that holds the guts in the cylinder has come out, but it also sounds as though the master cylinder seals are leaking. Is there a damp patch of clutch fluid in the footwell?

Best bet is to get another cylinder, I'da thought.

Save the pushrod on the pedal: you may need it when the new one turns up without an adjustable pushrod.

Can get Wilwood cylinders for cheaper than a "TVR" one. Just make sure you buy the right bore size. Measure the old one. Prolly 0.625, 0.700, 0.750, possibly 0.875 inch.

Did you notice any black marks all over your shoes.

As this happened to me in the old wedge and it was fluid, turned out to be the slave cylinder as mentioned.

Look n the footweel for fluid it runs down the bulkhead.

So would it be best to change the slave first. I guess this is the easier and cheaper job??

No oil on my shoes, in fact I cant see any at all.

Thanks for help guys.

The cylinder on the firewall is the master cylinder. The cylinder in the bellhousing is the slave cylinder.

Before you buy a new master cylinder just check what's happening at the bell housing end, slave cylinder. Is there movement of the fork when you compress the master cylinder? A sudden failure could be the fork being punched through by the pivot post.

I had this problem and an appetite for clutch fluid (not me, the car wink ).

I got hold of an overhaul kit for both the master and slave cylinders.

Easy job to do, apart from the pedal pin had seized in and I had to drill a small hole in the bulkhead to knock it out paperbag!

See here:- http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&a...

Exactly what happened to me! Overhauled master and slave, and it didn't solve it. Ended up making an 'inspection hole' in the bellhousing and replaced the damaged fork with the one attached to my spare box.
Overhaul is worthwhile anyway and only the master can be an issue(get it from the car), or dislodging the pushrod on the slave as it requires an inspection hole or taking the box from the engine.....

Is repairing the master a major job? Lost my confidence since trying to plumb a toilet in today!! ( I'll be damned if I am paying a plumber more to fix my stter than I get paid to land a plane safely!!Personal rant over furious)

And will this overhaul stop this piston falling out.

Thanks again for all of your advise.

isn't the piston held in by a circlip? The overhaul will only help if there's a circlip included! Or you could get another circlip elsewhere.

THinking about it - did you check under the footwell carpet - any circlips lying down there?
