You'll have to excuse me here, I know nothing about this subject. Looking for any suggestions, advice. I've done a search and a few helpful threads but it would seem most have 18" alloys..

Current tyres state:
Front - 225/45z r16 89y
Rear - 245/45z r16 94w

Is it possible to go to a bigger width at the back on the standard wheels? Would it be advisable to go for a bigger alloy?

It's come to the point where I need some new rears hence the query. I understand that if I went for a larger alloy I would need a different profile etc, but how do you know what you require/what fits etc?
Chances are ill stick with the standard wheels but if I am changing tyres I may as well go for an increase in width if possible? Or am I talking complete rubbish.. please tell me if I am smile I have read about some of you going for 255 at the back?

Apologies if this is all very obvious but I lack knowledge on tyre sizes and need to learn, if anyone can offer advise it would be great as I search google for general info.

Most people move to18" wheels purely for cosmetic reasons. 18" wheels are more prone to buckling as you have to fit a lower profile tyre. Also 18" tyres cost quite a bit more than 17", 17" is a fairly common tyre size nowadays.

The sizes you give are for the standard 4.2 with the OZ Saturn (??) wheels.

Yor best option (IMO) is to try and get some of the 17" RL's which were fitted to the 4.5's as standard, 235/40 front and 255/40 rear, this retains the classic standard 'look' of the Cerb, and is probably the best ride/handling combination.

Ta for the reply.

If im going to go for new wheels i'll get something a bit different. If Im being a tight git and stick with what I have would I fit 255's on the back? thats the question smile I dont know if this is possible or not.. or if it would effect anything dramatically..
