Anybody thought about making these bigger - just big enough say to get your hand in below the headlight - especially on a precat so you have access to the heater wiring?

Is there a structural reason not to?

It can't be difficult to make up a new cover can it?
Has anyone made a cover out of anything other than GRP? Mine are chewed to bits now and have a multitude of holes in as a succession of opening and closing has wrecked the holes the self tappers make.
Thinking about it then, has anyone changed this method of attaching the daft things either?

Phew, I'm glad I've got that lot off my chest biggrin

Thanks guys.
Ian

Made mine bigger to improve access to light conversion. Then just laid-up new panels 3mm thick.

I'd say the only area to watch was around the lower headlight bracket. It doesn't really seem to take any weight but it might transfer vibration into the surrounding area so I'd leave a bit of meat there.

I was planning to make up some new ones with a "power bulge" to accommodate the headlight upgrade but they just fit... Just biggrin

I just reversed mine, gave extra clearance for the 7" & doesn't touch either set of wheels smile

When I had to make the decision whether to create access panels or not , I did ponder how I would do it..

My thoughts were that you needed to create a nice oval shape in the wheel arch, so that the panel would fit flush but have an inner lip that would 'pinch' a seal between the 2 panels as it was tightened up. Because of the lip, the height of the cut out would need to be greater than the width+lips so that you could fit it IYSWIM wink

Others have commented that sealant & vaseline can be used to create a reusable seal?

I created my own removable grills in the end preferring to keep strength in the wheel arch (early chim nose is not very strong it seems)

BTW I'll get back to you later sealslider hehe
