Mclaren F1 for sale

Maybe some of you historians can confirm for me the history of the design of the Ultima GTR and the Mclaren F1. There seem to be a lot of similarities between the GTR and the F1. Is this just coincidence or is there something behind it?

Mclaren bought two Ultima chassis as test beds for the development of the Mclaren F1 engine.
They were destroyed when the development was completed.
