I've just had a power cut that lasted about 15 minutes. Just long enough for my UPS to give up, and cause me an additional 30 minutes getting the home network back up and running.

Luckily it ran for just long enough for me to get the phone number of the electricity company off their web site.

Glad it's now working - grr though.

So what did you do, tell them in no uncertain terms to re-supply you with electric power because you pay your bills on time????

And what was their reply?

Just a recording to say that they apologies for the loss of power that occurred at 03:05, and that it should've been backup within 2 hours (so 15 minutes wasn't so bad).

The annoying thing was I had a powercut on Friday, which was just my internal trip switch going off, so I thought it was that again. It didn't occur to me to look out of the window until I'd already stumbled downstairs, turned off all the fuses, and then got access to the trip switch to find it was still on. That time, there was enough time for the UPS to keep everything going (and it was daytime).

Do they know it's a business use?

Also, get a better UPS? There are some pretty cheap ones out there these days, 2.5KW or more for a few hundred pounds, which may be well worth it if you lost loads of work because of a powercut!

More to come and worse too.

This may have been works digging through a cable or such like, but energy security is very weak and there will be increasing numbers of power cuts.

It's my home network smile

The office network (which is about 0.7 miles away and was also affected) survived long enough (they've got significantly more UPS power than I have - but then also more machines).

15 mins...pah.

Out here is the sticks we have had a couple of 12 hour power cuts, regularly get a a couple of hours of nothing.

Hence I now have a little genny hooked up.
