I used to be au-fait with LCD TVs a couple of years ago when I bought my 32"... Now I'm looking for a 42" full HD model.

I'm looking at the Toshiba 42XV555DB. Simple really.. Can it be bettered for the money? (£650 max).

Thanks!

I've always found What Hi-Fi Sound and Vision magazine to be very useful and reliable - definitely worth buying the latest issue to gen up on what's for sale at the moment.

Er, I was about to just buy 'a 32" telly' in the Xmas sales. Now I'm worried. Plasma, or LCD? eek

You get purer blacks with Plasmas, LCDs are (generally) cheaper.

I have just seen a sign in Tokyo that recommends a 65 inch screen if you are any more than 2.5m from the telly....

For 1080p that is correct.

THX recommended from a 65" is 7.3ft (2.22m)

(Sorry for the slight hi-jack)

I can only really fit a 37" into my flat and I'd be about 2m away. So I take it no point in 1080p - my original idea of a Panasonic 37PX80B will do?

You're on for 1080p, just.

You want Plasma rather than LCD

2m dead you'll get the benefit.

2.3m and you wont

If you can go a little bit more than the £650 then there is the 42PZ80B which is a bit less than the 42PZ85

Your eyes will thank you and bear in mind you'll have it for a while...

Why the LCD hate, out of interest? I've never been anything other than impressed with the picture from modern LCDs. They seem excellent value for money. I know plasmas have great black levels and all, but my 3 year old Toshiba LCD gives out very impressive pictures smile

Probably slightly under 2m. A rethink may be in order (but I am restricted by the width of the set for the space available - I don't want a complete room rearrange just for a telly. A 37PX will fit, a 37PZ will not - the extra 1.5cm or so makes all the difference).

10-12 feet. I don't want a massive telly, I guess 32" is the absolute max that I'd consider. Prob the next size down, so I don't imagine picture degradation will be too much of an issue.

Its not hate, Plasma performs better in 3 of the 4 key areas of what makes a quality image, some plasmas are better in all 4.
