Been mulling the idea of a complete removal of the ICE from the Cerb for a while now, as I have never used it in over 4 years and as some scrotes swiped the head unit over the weekend (yes I left it unlocked, no they didn't damage the car) it's made the idea even more of a go-er.

Would appreciate some feedback from the Cerb collective on my ideas of what to 'fill the holes' with.....

1) Head Unit. I was thinking along the lines of a din-sized mini-glovebox for holding keys, ciggies etc. My ideal would be a din-sized 'box' that would simply slide into the existing hole with a leather-faced flip front, hinged at the bottom and held in-situ with maybe opposite polar magnets on the back of the face-plate and on the top face of the 'box' ?? Any better ideas or anyone know of a 3rd party product that might fit the bill??

2) Bass Speaker. currently mounted where the helmet holder was. I'd like to return this to it's original state, but upon closer inspection the original ICE installer left no room for reversing the work, as the entire space between the seats is a custom unit with a round hold in the middle where the speaker goes. So does anyone have a spare helmet holder assy? Failing that any ideas on what the put in it's place (using the existing round hole)? Do they stock them at any of the breakers?

3. There are 2 tweeters each side above the visors, screwed onto the leather fairing that is between the top of the windscreen and the roof lining. As there are 2 screw holes holding each tweeter on, I was thinking of maybe mounting a small touch-screen unit that could be hooked up to my phone running sat-nav via bluetooth? Any other ideas? With the touchscreen idea, that only covers the drivers side, any idea on passenger side?

4. What to do with the standard rear speakers? (by the rear passengers ears). As these are cut out of the vinyl there's no option to remove them without replacing them with something.

5. What to do with the door tweeters? I was thinking maybe to find a mini-guage the same size? Worried that it may start looking cheap with superfluous guages and with the door location they would have to be electrical only to route through the loom?

Or should I just replace the head unit area and leave the speakers in-situ? I'm worried that if I get it wrong it'll look, well, sh!t....

All suggestions welcome smile

Just bang another head unit back in. There will be a day in the distant future you may wish to sell it, and a potential purchaser may want some 'sound' whilst sitting in a traffic jam?

I removed the bass speaker from the helmet hole a while back. Luckily the installation was fairly DIY so just had to pull out the mdf board, push some wires back under the trim and give it all a good wipe. Left the 'thingy' in the boot (amp?) disconnected in case someone wanted to put it all back together again.

Ive seen some nice bass speaker installs but TBH, now Ive gone back to a helmet holder, it just looks how a Cerb should look IMO (and WAY cooler with the helmet stuck in there!)

I hear what you're saying about resale potentials with the stereo left there, but the chances of selling it are remote to say the least and the situation leading to selling would have very serious indeed (War, Famine, Pestilence, Apocalypse, that sort of thing). Plus, if a potential buyer holds the sound coming from the stereo above the AJP8, even at idle, they don't deserve to drive one and I'd tell them so before asking them to disappear from my sight....

I'm also of the view that the original helmet holder looks the mutts. Just need to see if I can get hold of one.. In black.... smile

Can you stick up a pic? Normally its just an mdf board but sounds like yours has been hacked about a bit?

One of the breakers yards for a replacement? or maybe one of the carbon fibre chappies?

You can get a din sized additional gauge mount (usually 3 gauges I think) if you wanted to fill the stereo hole in that way - course you still run the risk of it looking a stey chavfest hehe

Personally, I'd just rip out any additional speakers that you can (without causing repair work), deffo remove the rear sub but leave the standard speakers in there with a new head unit... if you want the head unit to serve a purpose and earn it's keep (other than the redundant music function) then you could consider one that has built in bluetooth for hands free phone use or may be one of the single din units that do satnav (i.e not the pop out screen variety).
