Well after a good few years and a lot of soul searching I have decided that I will be standing down as co-RO for PHEA at the end of this year. I will not go into the reasons why, but things have changed on PHEA and I feel that I can't put all of my heart into it anymore.

Anyway, the plus side is it gives one of you fine people the chance to step forward and take over the role of arranging the events along with John. So all volunteers take one step forward !

I am not giving up on PHEA altogether, and will still attend some shows as normal (you lot don't get rid of me that easily !), but no longer what to 'have' to attend because I,m an RO.

I,m still arranging the Xmas meal so please continue to get your bookings and cheques to me, but that will be my last event as co-RO.

Thanks to everyone for the support you have given to the events I have arranged over the years. It is very, very much appreciated.

Ian, did they not tell you when you signed up that you have to give a minimum of 12 months noticehehe
You will certainly be a hard act to follow, people don`t always realise just how much work goes on in the background, trying to organise and co-ordinate events etc,its a thankless task for sure and one that you excelled atyes
When are the interviews being undertaken for your replacement, what will be the criteria? (Any sierra drivers need not applylaugh)
I nominate darren for the positionwhistle

I know exactly how you feel Ian. It was only your timely and much-appreciated intervention after Ian B died that allowed PHEA to survive, for it is too much for one person to run. I hope that someone will quickly step in and follow your example, and if they do then I'm happy to continue running the shows in the central and southern parts of the region, and PHEA will continue.

Ian has done an outstanding job, indeed taken the lion's share, and you may not realise how much time and effort it takes to do these things. He has set a very high standard to follow.

To anyone pondering the role, my advice is this - see it as a hobby to be enjoyed. Don't be disappointed if less than 30 people turn up - it's not a school roll call, we do it for fun. Be professional and efficient because people are relying on you, but keep it informal. PHEA attracts people precisely because it IS informal.

I see that Darren has already been mentioned and he would have my support too. Everyone has an opinion on how things should be done, but surprisingly few people step up to the mark when the chance arises to do it.

NB: I hope Ian brings a driver with him to the next meeting because he has certainly earned a good few drinks from all of us!

Thanks for all your efforts Ian. I look forward to seeing the Vette out soon for a hoon!

May I ask a question? Why does there need to be officialdom at all? If people want to do or organise something, they should be free to do so. Works pretty well in Northampton, Kent et al where individuals take a lead on a case-by-case basis. Perhaps then the burden can be spread more evenly with a wider range of events and hoons.

I too would like to thank you Ian for all your efforts in organising PHEA events, as an former R.O. myself I know what its like. Can be hard work but also great fun too. OK I have'nt attended many events for a while now for obvious reasons (can't keep up with your bloody convoyslaugh )but still enjoy your PHEA company from time to time.

IMHO the group needs an 'official' as an point of contact to new members as well as offering established members confidence that if an event is announced organised, you know at what level organised means in terms of quality.

Fair question. There's certainly no officialdom - no members, no committees, no rules - indeed many of us are here specifically to avoid such things. But as Crankedup says, somebody has to gather up all the opinions and make a decision - otherwise in our experience everything just turns into a mush - you get 20 different ideas/opinons on what to do/where to go, and nodody to pick one and run with it. Democracy is great but without a leader (or two) it stalls into confusion.

However it's not just for Ian and myself to cook up events - in fact we welcome ideas. Anya is currently organising the Comtec trip and Mark CSC organised the Late Summer Run. If we think it's a runner, then we'll support it, add it to the itinerary at www.phea.co.uk , circulate it around our considerable mailing list, make it sticky, take the banners along etc etc.

Furthemore, East Anglia in particular was originally given permission by PetrolTed to fly the PH banners, logos etc at events, and he was extremely careful who he trusts with the brand. As far as I know East Anglia is the only forum to have received this patronage.

Thank you all for your very kind words both on here, and in the emails that I have received. It is very much appreciated.

It really was a very, very difficult decision to take as I really enjoyed the role (most of the time). However, certain events within PHEA over the last few weeks have placed me in a position where I no longer feel comfortable to continue in the role.

Thanks very much Steve - I think it would be unfair to expect any one person to take over all Ian's stuff instantly so it might be an idea if it was shared between two, at least to start with. That way we'd have about a third each, get a good variety of stuff, and nobody would feel over-burdened.

Just seen this as I generally hang out in the Viper forum.

Would just like to say Ian, that on the few PHEA events that I attended I have always found them to be top notch and with a great bunch of folks.

So thanks for all your work, more time to enjoy the Vette?

Hopefully catch you in 2009

Sorry to hear that you are stepping down Ian, you and John are to me, the stalwarts of PHEA and you will be missed! You were very easy to deal with when booking into shows & replying to my daft questions, of which, I have an everlasting supply.
If Darren is serious about taking your place, that would be an excellent idea. I would offer my services too but I know I definitely can't offer the commitment needed (or to anyone, but that's a different story!).

Best of luck for the future & hopefully speak to you at the meet on Sunday, or the Xmas meal.
