I have a Renault Espace 2.1 Alize, diesel turbo with 180,000 miles on the odometer. I think the clutch is on its way out, the symptons are, clutch pedal stiff and hard to get into first and second when engine is idling. Unable to obtain reverse as it crunchs and doesn't engage. Third fourth and fifth easier to get into. At the moment it is drivable, strange thing is, it was all working fine, we didn't use the car for four days, my wife went to use the vehicle, when all the problems occurred. I know her driving is bad, but not to cause this. Any ideas?

Also, when the cluch pedal is depressed and a gear is selected, I only have to raise the pedal an inch from the carpet and you are able to move the vehicle using gears.

I would say the clutch is at fault, i work on alot of these and the pressure plate fingers tend to fatigue and they go all stiff and dont clear the clutch properly, a new clutch will do it wonders, once its replaced you will think you are driving a different car, nice soft clutch pedal feel.

Just feedback on my topic.

You were correct, the clutch was at fault along with a broken gearbox mount, how I don't know, but thank you for the advice, most appreciated.
