he was never going to make a full appearance because of the date clash with the Sports Personality award. He wouldn't of made it from Wembley to Liverpool, and my guess is that they have had to committ to the awards because

a) no one has ever been absent from the ceremony that won the overall award
b) the effect of being absent to collect if Hamilton won on his image ( people would think he was arrogant)
c) pressure from Bernie to support the BBC now it has taken over the coverage
d) pressure from the beeb ref point c.
e) the delay in deciding was to see whether LH had a chance of winning the award ( you can now assume that he will win it - it is now very convenient (BEEB+F1+LH+AWARD= extra promotion opportunity in 2009)

Yeah to be fair it was pretty predictable they'd get him in somehow, personally I feel a bit robbed as he won't actually be competing, would've loved to see him and DC go up against Schumi/Vettel.

The other driver with DC will probably be another Scot, last year they had Colin Mcrae's brother Alistair. (It was supposed to be Colin himself originally.)

Does anyone else on here feel slightly had over??? What a copout!!! Now i'm a Hamilton fan but i think this is a mistake. He's always said that he's wanted to race MS and this is the perfect opportunity to not only do that but also give the fans what they want as well.

I personally don't give a toss about him racing Chris Hoy. He's an awesome athlete but has fk all to do with motorsport and i have no doubt in my mind that Lewis will dick on him......so seems very pointless and just really stinks of yet again his dads over protective attitude.

Lewis say's that racing Chris and doing a demo run is to say thank you to his fans all over the world! Thats bks!! If anyone on here knows any of the Hamiltons could you please relay this next bit on behalf ALL MOTOR RACING FANS WORLD WIDE:

We don't want to see you racing a man on a push bike we want to see you racing Michael Schumacher on home soil at Wembley stadium. Doing this bike versus car thing instead only harms your credibility as you (your dad makes you) duck out of the race that EVERYONE REALLY WANTS TO SEE!!! Basically, put your cock on the block and don't let your dad dictate what you can and can't do. You want to race him and WE ALL want you to race him so give the fans, who get up at 4 am on a sunday morning to watch you race in OZ or Japan and who travel to Monaco, Belgium, Silverstone etc what we want......The current world Champion against arguably, the best driver that has ever been.

So what exactly would this prove? Say he beats Schumi or Vice Versa? Did Heiki not look fantastic last year? I am a motorsport fan but really dont give a toss of wither Hamilton turns up at this circus or not. I want to see him winning the real stuff and cant believe that Honda are letting Button take part in it after his pathetic performance this year.

Its actually a bit 21st century Britain eco bks. In France, one year they had a Renault F1 car douing the rounds (the track was modified to create an outer "ring"). The next year, they had two jet powered dragsters in the ring at the same time. Can you imagine the noise, smoke, fuel vapours and flames as two jet engines were blipping thweir throttles in an arena. Mega
