Good Morning fellow petrol sniffers.

how is merry old England this fine morning?

I have a question for the TV experts in the house. I think its "derestrictor and plotloss" i should be hailing but anyone in the know will be fine.

I need to transport a 50" flat panel TV to my new flat. Will i do any damage lying it down in the back of my car on a duvet or something similarly soft?

Cheers Dudes.

it'll be fine - just avoid big bumps / shocks, and keep it flat for the minimum time you can (easier to break em when flat).

If it is a plasma, you'll want to have it standing up (screens are particularly vunerable in Plasma TVs), but if it is an LCD you can get away with laying it flat with nothing on top smile

Yes, don't lay a Plasma down. Otherwise just be cautious really.

I carried a 19 inch PC monitor flat in the back of my car and it cracked so I would go for standing up if possible.

Save yourself the hassle and send it via DHL, safe as houses.

Depends if you want your contents insurance premium to go up or not biggrin (assuming they don't wriggle out of it by saying it wasn't covered in transport).

Plasma's are basicaly 2 sheets of glass sandwitched together, so transport upright and nicely protected (blankets etc, tied down).

LCD are a lot more robust but still be carefull.

smile ha ha, sorry. im a little slow this morning.

So , if my vehicle of choice cannot hold a vertically positioned TV (Citroen Xantia) my only other choice is to try and hail minibus taxi and beg in my best German

A xantia is quite tall with large doors, so you might be able to stand it between the rear of the front seats and the base of the rear seats, if that makes sense?

I took my old 42" plasma 150 miles like that in my XJ6 and it survived, plenty of room once it was in the car, just a bit tight to get it through the door. Make sure it is well wrapped in duvets.

You'll be fine lying them down, just dont lie anything on them, as Rob says its a glass thing more than anything else.
