Good question, I'd be interested to hear this also, I also heard there aren't many HD channals and that SKY don't actually broadcast true HD anyways??.

Would be watched on a 37-inch 1080p lcd. I like watching most things but mainly movies and documentary . I don't have sky at the minute but will be getting it shortly and am not sure it's worth an extra 10 dabaroos.

Definitely worth it. All the movie channels now have HD equivalents. Also you have all 3 Sports channels in HD as well as BBC, C4, Sky and stuff I don't watch like Discovery etc.

Depending on what package you go for you might be able to push them to £5 a month for the first 6 months

I was going to upgrade this month but after phoning they want to charge me £199 for installation to which I told them the house is cabled for it so you will charge me just to plug in? Oh yes was the reply. So if you want to spend £275 for upgrade I am not sure its worth it, if a new customer then go HD.

The Sky HD subscription (or the Sky Mix as it is now called) gets you Sky One HD, Sky Arts HD, Nat Geo HD, History HD, FX HD, Discovery HD, Rush HD and Eurosport HD (along with the free HD channels) regardless of which mixes you subscribe to. If you also subscribe to Sky Sports you will get Sky Sport HD. If you also subscribe to Sky Movies you will get Sky Movies HD.

Do you automatically get Sky+ if you get SkyHD (or other way around?).

Reason I ask is that HD's good, but I find the "plus" bit, i.e. the recording and the live pause etc is just fantastic and completely changes the way you watch television.

We have low-def sky, no movie channels - if we want to watch something we usually end up getting a DVD. We bought a separate HD/DVD recorder which has paid for itself easily, rather than being charged endless Sky-tax for Sky-plus.

We're currently thinking about switching to FreeSat - apart from loosing Sky One (no great loss, the only thing we've watched on it recently has been Lost), it looks like a good deal.

There's relatively little decent HD output at the moment, but the saving of switching over to FreeSat makes a lot of sense, and you might as well future-proof yourself at the same time.

Sky+ is build into SkyHD. Sky+ doesn't have a subscription charge any more.

Had a issue yesterday with mine, tech support wiped my planner when she said the command wouldn't. So got annoyed and phoned up to cancel. I was offered sky plus for £99 plus free installation! Thats the going rate for new customers! Why an existing customer gets a worse deal is beyond me! I suppose as i've already donated enough to the xmas fund.

Sky+ is good. HD is on a few special channels and then not all the time though. Similar situation to when colour first came in - colour progs were stunning and sets were expensive but most progs were still in b&w. Gradually the balance changed.

I'm sure Sky (normal) is getting worse, sometimes it's like watching old DivX 600meg films hehe

I think it's all a bit of a ripoff really, thankfully Sky+ makes it half worthwhile because you can tape the important stuff when it's actually on...

Don't have HD, but have had Sky+ for years, thankfully they removed the charge on that which made Sky as a package more tolerable.

Still a total ripoff (+BT + internet) next to the suite of Virgin Media stuff. Oh how I wish for a cable connection smile

Sky+ is fantastic, wouldnt be without it now, Sky HD however....it really depends on what you watch and how often you watch it, ie in HD the footy looks fantastic, but will you watch them all, films are fantastic on a big 1080p tv but how often do you settle in for one? as an example the inlaws were round the other day and i showed him the difference in picture quality from non/HD hes 50 and he couldnt tell and as such now isnt bothered about upgrading. I on the other hand think its great!

Don't forget, if you get the Sky HD box it also upscales the regular channels too. Not to HD levels but better than standard.
