so i got round to checking the valve clearences this morning. n\s bank all ok 8 and 10 thou +/- 2

o\s bank take cover off oh f**************k tips of the cam lobes gone buckets have massive grooves in them.

thats the source of the noise then.

so my question firstly where to get new one / ones new second hand ? reprofiled?


whats my best bet.

its a 1997 4.2

oh and both cams have 106 degres stamped in them..if this helps.

yeah rang them thay have the cam's in stock but would have to change both and all the buckets on 1 bank and the shims this is very expencive and would like to no have to change both cams as one is fine.


cams £240 ea

buckets £17.5 ea

total cost £620

shims aprox £48

+ vat = 748.90 and still have to fit them all and get any gaskets etc.



but i have a plan. i no a man who re profils cams so he is going to repair the orignal at a fraction of the cost.

buti could do with the orignal spec for the cam ? any ideas?
