Letters after your name?

So I saw a customer today (I sell into a pretty technical environment) but could not believe the fellas business card! I'll leave their name out, but these are the letters after their name;

BSc(Hons) MBA PhD CDipAF CPhys CEng FloD FlnstP FRAes

No Bulls**t!

I know there have been discussions in the past on such subjects here on P'Heads but surely this is over the top?

I often find that those who are genuinely gifted never feel the need to tell anyone, brag about it or make silly public displays of their intelligence.

It's the ones with small willies you have to watch. Their business cards often have so many letters after them they could feature on an episode of seseme street.

Don't know the other one - possibly Fellow of the Institute of Directors

Personally I just have the BSc and the SSc.

I think its a bit pretentious. Put on the highest qualification maybe but not all of them. Why have bsc, msc and PhD for example.

When I did my degree the Honours aspect of the course was only for the higher achievers exam wise. I don't have my letters on my cards.

I would find it hard to trust someone who insisted on doing that; it smacks of insecurity/pretension.

By all means, if you have a PhD, put e.g. "Dr. grumbledoak" on your cards, and maybe on the office door. But the rest?

You just let them slip into conversations...

A friend of mine asked a colleague What the abbreviation on his sign outside his practice was standing for as he was mighty impressed.

It read NQ (Harvard).

Apparently it stands for not qualified from Harvard university.

Was given a card recently that had BA, MA on it, which is just silly, when you take a master's it is on top of your batchelor's degree, not an additional qualification. Same for PhD. If you have one you obviously have a degree as well, and anyone that doesn't realise that isn't wprth dealing with. I imagine someone out there has GCSE on their card.

I work in Insurance, this is as hilarious as it gets
