I was just wondering why so many people choose to buy supercars with the tiptronic option. When i was buying my gallardo i test drove both and i though the e-gear was jerky at low speeds and took away some of the fun of driving. I was having a look today on Lamborghini's website and most of the cars are e-gear, just wondering why people to choose to buy them?
Thanks
Thanks
I was wondering the same thing. I did a few circuit laps in an LP560 on Monday and found the flappy paddle gearbox seriously jerky. Admittedly I’ve not tried a manual but I really couldn’t see the attraction of the paddle shift. Maybe I'm missing something? Which is faster 0-100, fully manual or paddle?
Glad you made the shoot Thomas - not too drippy a day I hope...
There are some serious e-gear converts in the ranks these days. Mostly, the people who get used to the way the throttle / gearchange works will swear that the cars sprint and change better than full manuals as the system is faster than the muscles and sinews but in the end, it's bound to be less 'involving' than a stick, but they do change cogs faster sometimes, just a flap of the fingers and you're in a lower/higher gear, but no satisfying 'click-clack' and ...
Owning one of each would be the best solution, surely?
You're right about the jerkiness at lower speeds tho' - my only e-gear driving was a series of stutters and stammers but that was in a very early e-gear Murciélago some years ago... quite embarrassing really...
Did 'they' tell you when the pictures from Monday will appear?

As has been said, like all new things it takes some learning.
It's not Tiptronic, which is a normal torque converter auto with some switches, it is an automated manual and as such is fundamentaly different.
But once you do invest the time to learn it, it is superb, enabling you to keep both hands on the wheel at all times, which is better for both confidence and control when really traveling.
The art is in understnading what and how it's working and learing how to back off slightly as it changes gear. Unfortunately people often expect it to work like a automatic and keep their foot steady, which you'd never do in a manual car because you just know to lift a little, and it ends up shocking, just like it would in a manual car.
Personaly I love it.
