32k miles, no rebuild, stay clear or worth a pop?

Found a nice looking car which i may go look at today but would like some opinions. Its a 2001, tuscan 4.0, 32k miles with full history at horseless carriages. Its recently been serviced, and had a new clutch and a few other bits but its never had a top or full engine rebuild. If i could get it for the right price i.e. sub 10 grand, it should leave me with enough money for the parts IF it needed a rebuild as i would do the rebuild my self anyway.

If you could get it for £10k it would be a bargain, even if it does need a £6k rebuild at some point. There are plenty of cars out there with big mileages and no rebuilds, admittedly you don't hear about as many as the other way around, but it's not impossible.
Buy it with the expectation that it will need some engine work at some point and you'll only be pleasantly suprised if it doesn't.

Is the rest of the car in good nick? - do not underestimate the effort/cost of sorting niggles!
For under £10k I would mentally spend £16k on it..as the other poster said if it does not go it would be a bonus.
If you assume it will go, you could end up with a newly rebuilt engine with 3 years warranty for £16k, assuming car in decent nick, that is a bargin.

Pah, get some time in (or should that be miles!). Mine has turned 52k, has just spent 3 days last week driving round the 'Ring and is still as sweet as a nut (or am I the nut?).I know the engines had their issues (or some still have) but there are a lot out there with good miles on the clock and no rebuilds. As with everything, do the research and have a contingency pot waiting. Nothing (other than death or nurses) is certain!

As a buyer, you do need to assume you're going to need to spend the money at some point. I can't really think of any car to which this applies so relevantly!If it ain't broke!
