Brake squeal - Sagaris

Hi All,

Picked up my Sagaris a few days ago.

I get a REALLY loud brake squeal under light braking, i.e. when slowing in traffic or for lights.

Braking hard results in no squeal, also this only happens once the brakes have warmed up. There is plenty of bite and stopping power.

I was told this is fairly common for these cars.

Does anyone have any solutions/suggestions?

Doesn`t happen on mine, never heard any of Sag doing it either nor has my local servicer mentioned it...

A bit of copper anti seize between the pad and piston should do the trick. When I had my pads replaced they were coated in the stuff so I guess if it's not there they will squeel.

I had that on my T350 - the break pads did not quite fit the disk. They were a few millimeters larger than the disk - i.e. not all of the pad had contact with the disk. I had to use the old pads again (they're still thick enough).

I'll have new ones fitted next year. Hopefully I'll make it to the UK for having her serviced .

Many of the Sags out there will be running very hard linings because they have had the kind of enthusiastic use that will expose the problems with the soft standard linings.

This is a big factor in the noise under light breaking. Either copperslip, or a stick on anti squeal shim can be fitted to the back of the pad will return the silent brakes.

I already wake enough people up when returning home, the last thing I want is to subject them to this noise as well!

Yes, I get some squeal at very low speed when hot - ie. when manoeuvering in my driveway when I get home. Pretty much every time too.

I'm also not happy with the lack of initial bite - always mildly panics me.

What pads are people running? I've been very happy with the Mintex Xtreme items on my Corrado and am toying with the idea of trying them out on the Sag.

I'm starting to think a pad change to some "non-squealers" may be the way to go

i'll find out whats on mine, i think ferrodos are rated highly?

I assume you bought my old Sag after all! The brake pads were brand new Mintex pads at 16k miles and when warm work superbly. The copper grease was put on the back of the pads when fitted but I still had mild brake squeek. It may be an idea to re-apply if the squeek is very audible now. I would not suggest changing the pads though at this stage.

Yep picked it up last week, what a monster!

Will get the pads re-greased and go from there, they do work brilliantly once warmed up.

Will get some good driving in this weekend and really open her up, cant wait!
