100 RON Petrol
Discussion
To the classic car fraternity, yes, they will be rubbing their hands with glee.
100 Octane used to be known as 5-star and many performance cars of the 1960s used to run on it. They'll be able to use it with a dose of lead replacement and reset their ignition timings back to the original settings.
Basically, it's a more powerful fuel giving more combustion at ignition. Most modern cars are fitted with anti-pink measures so they can run 95 regular and 97 super-UL without the need of the owner to get the strobe light out and adjust.
If anything, more power and perkier acceleration is on the cards but it'll hit your wallet, I doubt this stuff won't even be the same price as SUL. I reckon a 15% price hike over 95 RON but not a 15% performance hike.

It;s 98 in .au (www.bp.com.au/products/fuels/bp_ultimate/ultimate.asp?menuid=ed)
Funny how many EU countries have 89, 92, 95, 98 and 100 RON fuels all available at a single petrol station - Optimax is 100RON in Germany.

BP SuperUnleaded was pretty inferior stuff IMO. I traced a persistent mid range misfire in my slightly enhanced EVO6 to use of this stuff. Always happened with BP Super UL, never with Esso or Shell 98 RON petrol. Was BP lower octane (97 instead of 98) or was it someother additive the car did not like?

Just order some 76 racing 106 RON unleaded if you want to drain your wallet but go faster.
Is that safe to use in an ordinary car? I've checked my manual and it says always use 98 octane - but then bangs on about how the car can use the fuel from 92 octane minimum and adapt...
I've wondered that, the X5 says that it will use anything from 89 to 98 and adjust, and "for the driver that wishes to obtain maximum performance 98 RON should be used all the time).
Given to take advantage of higher RON you have to advance the ignition I presume that the X5 is set to it's optimum point for 98 and then uses the nock sensor to retard from that point backwards.
But then I've often wondered if they always rely on the nock sensor, and hence if you stick 100 RON in it will advance the ignition even further by effectivly retarding it less (if you see what I mean).

It should do, but there may well be a point it cannot advance past, just to do with the max octane the engineers thought it would be likely to encounter.

Anyone got some 100RON fuel lying around
100 RON has been available on the continent for a while but I can't comment on any difference in actual driving or performance from 97/98. As for 106 - a bit overkill for a road car unless you are driving something highly modified. And consider that 76 Racing 106 RON costs £79.00 for only 25L or £39.00 for 10L too!!
you guys might want to read this before messing about with toluene http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Toluene

Sorry if this has been done before but has anyone heard about the new 'Ultimate Unleaded' from BP? It came out today and is rated at 100 rather than 98 RON and costs about 87p???

Will this make much difference??
87P a litre for super UL....ah THOSE were the days!

Are octane boosters safe to use i.e. will they knacker the engine in the long term?
The higher the octane rating, the better for the engine - your car may not be able to take full advantage of the extra octane rating, but it certainly won't do it any harm.
The Octane Booster to use is Millers. Adds up to 3 octane and is the only FIA approved one. I've tried them all and its genuinely the only one that makes a real difference. I have found that using Millers CVL actually pays for itself due to better mpg!
