Everyone happy, job done. If only F1 was as uncomplicated as this--BUT No FIA.Maybe we should get FIM to take over??.

Halle-freakin-lujah! I can finally stop, rather questionably, calling MotoGP riders gay!
MotoGP is still ace, and the riders are properly hardcore, but it was so much more exciting and impressive when they used to drift the things. Surfeit of grip over power, or electronics designed to mimic the affect of it, is always a killer for any motor sport.

The serious injury rate was higher too, and death toll, tracks unsafe, i wouldnt call that exciting.

Let's see Casey try and ride that Ducati without oodles of TC....
Hahahaha why you lot always gotta single out Casey, Arent there 14 other riders on the grid that use TC? (14
how embarrassing)Besides, Casey is an Aussie, outddor dirt riding is standard practice, you make it sound like riding without will be a new experience, your way off the mark.

It's not exactly "job done" is it? It's a person who's not from FIM saying that electronic aids might be restricted some time in the future but not for at least a year. The FIA on the other hand, has already banned traction control and launch control in the premier car series.Everyone happy, job done. I'm definitely up for banning traction control. I'm a Rossi fan and there's loads of speculation floating around as to who 'needs' traction control most. I'd just like to see what the result is, regardless who wins.
Hopefully Rossi will still be in the sport and competitive long enough for this to happen.

I think the reason Casey has been mentioned is that earlier last season he was going through a bad patch untill he found his form again, When asked about this he said that Ducatti had found something new in the electronics.
As has been prooved in F1 the cream will still rise to the top even without the aids.

The spectacle can only improve as a result of this and I'm sure that it wont take the riders long to adapt, however those who've recently come through from superbikes and haven't ridden a big 4 stroke without TC may struggle.
It's a pity there wont be any 'tyre war' though as that would be the logical development from this change - someone building a tyre that can grip enough and survive race distances.
Now, Hayden on a Ducati with no TC

The serious injury rate I doubt was any different and in fact we are now seeing more high side type crashes like the 500 days where TC is involved but can't recover the situation, just look at Lorenzo's accidents this year.
As for unsafe tracks, they're going as fast in a straight line now as they were then, but are going round the corners faster, not TC but the inertia involved with riding a smaller & lighter machine.
Therefore I would happily argue that 800's are currently more dangerous than the 990's ever were. Apart from Nakano's crash at Mugello along the straight, we very rarely see an accident in a straight line. Bends provide the most dangerous point and they're now going faster than ever around them, with shorter braking distances on the way in to them.
Bridgestone have in fact been asked to produce tyres with less grip to try and slow them down, which ultimately will mean a greater reliance on TC to get the lap times, possibly leading to more high sides.
Look at the injury rates during the 500 era, in fact look at Schantz's hands, or Mamola or Doohan, anyone from that period will confirm that high sides are the worst kind of accidents.
As for Stoner being singled out it's a reaction by fans of other riders looking for something to blame for their riders not winning. In 2006 when Nicky won only 2 races but got the championship it was because of other riders inconsistency and mechanicals . ..
Every single rider on the grid uses TC and when you go and listen to a MotoGP close up you tend to believe that the reason Stoner is so fact is that his TC isn't as apparent and likely not to be cutting in as much as others, therefore not robbing the bike of the power. Ducati introduced a bike with a different philosophy to the other manufacturers and Stoner has such an immense amount of talent to be able to ride it for them, just read Hayden's comments since he got on it.
Further rule changes are not going to make the MotoGP racing closer, changing the rules all the time is exactly what makes racing less close as some teams deal better than others early on, the others need time to catch up and before they do the rules get changed again. . . .
MotoGP has got to be very careful that it doesn't end up throwing out the prototype status. Control tyres, control ECU's and if that Ducati CF chassis is too competitive next year that'll get banned as well . . where will it end.
I am ambivalent to TC, it's available on road bikes, it's not the reason the racing isn't as close. For a comparison just look at WSB. Control tyres, any ECU you please and it's got some of the closest world level racing there is . .

controlled tyre and controlled electronics means no development in either. personally I reckon that tyres and things like traction control are developments that can be brought across to road bikes whereas a lot of motogp work cannot. backward step in my view.

Exactly, everyone on the grid will have the same disadvantages not just Casey, even the great man himself. Casey is just unfortunate to be the man everyone loves to hate.As has been prooved in F1 the cream will still rise to the top even without the aids.
TC removes some of the skill from the rider. How much? Maybe as little as 10-20%, maybe as much as 50%, but it still shifts the responsibility from riders to mathematicians and software engineers.
I used to be a software engineer working in driver aids, trust me, it's very dull to watch. Ban the electronics, let the boys fight it out on th track...
ETA: Rossi isn't finished yet, but Casey's very good. Can't wait for 2009, but I suspect the commentary will be sheet without Eurosport...
