In the process of planning our trip and am looking for some where to stay on the Thursday night ; have a meal and a few beers - has anyone been to this town / village?

Lovely place. Dropped in there on the way back from Le Mans Classic last year and had a great time. As it was Bastile Day there were all sorts of celebrations going on. The best of these was a competition among the local lads to run up a greased mast put out over the harbour and collect the flowers placed at the end of the mast to present to a local girl. However, of course, they all ended up in the drink to the delight of the crowd!
Definitely worth a visit.

Delightful spot, just don't sit down to lunch by the harbour if you're planning to catch a ferry any time that day. We thought a couple of hours should be ample ...

we stay at Le Cheval Blanc on the harbour and eat at the nearby La Bisquine.
only good customers are allowed to park in the town hall car park though:

I used to go there on family holidays as a yoof - lovely place.

As mentioned, easy to lose half a day there...

I thought you were going to say... short of cash! It's a lovely place but also astonishingly expensive. Last year we sat at outside at a bar table and paid more for a couple beers than we had a few months earlier at Casino Square in Monaco

We stopped overnight in Honfleur on the way back in '04. Stayed at an inexpensive 'motel' on the outskirts (can't recall its name). Walked into town, had the most superb seafood meal at the harbour side, strolled around the town window shopping in galleries, saw a lot of PHers parked up together.

The visit finished off the trip to Le Mans perfectly, highly recommended.

Hi Puff-puff - long time no speak - still got the Riley? I've changed the MX5 for the Jag I always promised myself. I have fond memories of going to the breakfast Club at Goodwood in the Riley on a sweltering summers day. The hotel we stayed in at Honfleur was the Auberge de la Claire in Rue Albert Manuel. But last year I found a much better place - the L'Absinthe right next to the old port. It certainly beats the night we tried to sleep in the Expo car park in the MX5. Quite a bit more expensive at 145 euros a room but a very classy hotel with a superb restaurant where I had the best oysters of my life. Heartily recommended! This year we've already booked to go out Poole - Cherbourg as we want to visit some of the D Day beaches. Any good recommendations for a good hotel close to / on Omaha beach?

My mate's dad has a holiday home close to Hon Fleur and have been there a couple of times in the last couple years... Definitely worth a visit, beautiful harbour, reminds me of the puzzles of harbours that I used to do as a kid,

By the way... it's not Mussels and Chips...its Moules Frittes... very cheap and delicous!

Stayed in Honfleur on the way back from Classic Le Mans and Cognac last July. One of our favourite places.

Can recommend the Mercure hotel.....good price, clean rooms (although a tad small) but bonus is they have a big private car park, fully secured and monitored.

Just a 5 minute walk to the restaurants and harbour.

Great place, stopped there on the way there and on the way back this year. Stopped in the Ibis on the main road in, immaculate and very reasonable. 5 min walk to harbour. Great photo opportunities!!, that's Honfleur in general, not the Ibis itself.
