Ordered some sofas, waiting for them to arrive. Next call centre agent makes a point of reminding me that if they won't fit in the house, it's my fault.

Me-"OK, my conservatory door leading straight into the living room is 69cms wide and you can ignore any other obstructions. Will it fit?"

Next-"No idea sir, approximate measurements are in the Next directory"

Me-"Yes, but that's HxWxL with all the cushions on. Those dimensions help me decide if it will go well in the room, or fit in an alcove, not get through a door. Please provide me with exact measurements, not approximates"

Next-"Approx measurments are in the Next directory. If it won't fit it's your fault and we charge you 5%. Your responsibility sir"

Me-"OK, supply me with CAD or similar drawings, showing how wide the arms are, how deep the base is, and I will work out whether I can get it through my door at an angle and hooking an arm at a time through the doorway. I am not taking responsibility if all you are doing is giving me "approx dimensions"

Next-"Next directory blah blah 5% stuck record"

Me-"Well phone the delivery company and tell them my door width and ask them if it will fit through a 69cm door with the cushions off"

Next-"Blah blah 5% failed delivery your responsibilty"

Cocktards. If it does not fit how the feck can they legally hold me to a 5% charge when they won't give the fecking measurments? Morons. Unless you have double patio doors or something no sofa is just going to go straight though it as per their "approx measurements" in the fecking directory!

banghead

PS anyone had a large and small Balham sofa delivered through a 69cm door?

Your expectations were way too high, this is Next the high street shop, not Next the bespoke furniture manufacturer. They are just call centre monkeys with a copy of the catalogue.

Get it from M&S, better sofas and they have a 20% sale on today.

yes

If they can't be bothered to be helpful, especially in the current market, tell them where to put their sofa.

It's not like you couldn't find 20 other places falling over themselves to sell you one.

Its amazing how some sofa's will fit through small doors though. We have got a massive leather one and it never looked like it would fit through the door, but with a bit of manouvering it slipped through like a freshly greased turd.

If you ordered other than in person at a shop then distance selling regulations apply anyway.

Did order at the shop, however the sofas were not available to view.

TBH I am sure it will fit (we have a 2 and 3 seater at the mo obviously!) but I was just amazed at the stupidity of the organisation. Shame really, shop assistant could not have been more helpful. Pity about the Customer Loyalty Prevention Centre...

I would say you are cutting it fine. Most doors are 30" for internal and 32" external (some are smaller) this is 76.2cm and 81.28 cm. This doesnt of course take account of the fact that you cant bend the door all the way back so that restricts it even further. Good luck.

Personally I always expect a full 3D modeling exercise to be done when I have bulky items delivered.

I don't get how they can charge 5% just because it won't fit through the door, just leave it outside and build another conservatory around it biggrin

Had to do that once. When the ex and I were living here, we bought a mahoosive green (and very comfy) Habitat sofa off of a bloke on the ground floor who was moving out. Got it up the stairs to our second floor flat but, try as we might (every conceivable way) could not get it into the flat. In the end, I took a Stanley knife to the fabric on the back to make an opening, then sawed through the uprights on the back, folded it over and got it through the door. Made good the uprights and stapled back the fabric. Pushed against a wall, you would never know.

Ordered a door from B&Q. Not stock, so special order. £60 door, fecking £20 delivery charge - we're 2 miles away from them!

Got a phone call to say it was being delivered on Tuesday. SWMBO takes day off. She hears lorry outside - yes, it's B&Q. A few minutes later, lorry drives off eek

No door. confused

Now, we live in a 2nd floor flat but they knew this and had our phone number. SWMBO phoned me in a bit of a panice so I called B&Q to find out where our door was. Point one - B&Q, please employ people who can use your computer system. Point two - when someone who can use the aforementioned computer system is found, I do not like being referred to as "pal" by them.

Several phone calls later (rolleyes) I am told that as nobody was in (confused) the door had been left with our neighbour in the opposite flat. This person is an elderly widow who doesn't open the door to anyone.

When I got home I called at every flat in the block and eventually found my door in the flat opposite the flat below us. I of course then had to hump this fking wood panelled door upstairs to our flat.

Needless to say, I want my £20 "delivery charge" back!
