They say the testing is done 'independently' , but how can a Giff 4.3 be the same figure as a Griff 500 ? I seriously doubt all their figures if this is the result !

It will depend on the cars, but some 4.3BVs *are* as fast as a standard 500.

As is said frequently on here, each engine varies significantly in output and there is a degree of variation in vehicle weight too. Heavy car down on power is slow, light car up on power is fast. That way a good 400 could be as quick as a poor 500 if taken to extremes. Blah Blah..

Edited to ask - Do I get commission on this advert? ---->

The LT77 gearboxes have shorter gearing. That, and if you average out all the road test data on various engine versions of Griffmaeras you'll see that there's not nearly as much in it as people suggest. The 500 has a lot and rather brutally produced midrange torque which feels like someone's just shoved a rocket in you a**e (just before the car's pointing the wrong way hehe) that's all. Peak power - I'd say 265 for an average, healthy 500 vs. 255 for a 4.3 and bit more for a BV.

LOL scratchchin Well that must have been the most powerful standard Griff ever made then since, As you know Hamish a 500 came out of the factory at anywhere between 265 and 285 IIRC

Perhaps your car went through a cam change prior to your purchase maybe yes

The 430's over the wekend punched well above the percieved BHP's ..... Groovers as above( his has done double the mileage of mine)... mine at 273bhp... putting alot of 500's to shame.

The 430's have a lot more specifically/specially engineered internal bits n picies (rumoured cosworth lifters... possibly lots fiited with BV heads fitted as standard without the prenium being paid when ordered) then the 500s

So to conclude a 430 in good health is equal approx to most standard 500 (which TVR overclaimed the bhp) ... however the precats sound so much better and rev so much freer....... if you get the opportunity take a good one for a drive and you will know wink

I've stuck mine up the arse end 320 bhp 500's and they have the edge at approx 130mph+, then they start pulling away... and 70k porkers still wondr why I'm with them after a good blatt.

Don't knock the 430's as it is not the case biggest is best smile (well that what I tell the ladies as well lol)

That was after a fresh rebuild by Dulfords and put on their RR. Engine had an mc1 cam fitted during the rebuild.
The heads/manifolds had been gas flowed by a previous owner and also had a high compression ratio, the trumpets were factory fitment scaffold tubes (although bigger diameter than the norm) and the induction pipework was all std. along with factory ecu.

I had a 4.3 from new for 6 years,, swapped for a new 500, imho a better car (albeit slightly in most areas), and freer reving...

maybe they are all different wink

Couldn't put up with the noise my 4.3 made any longer wink
