As I sit here looking at the clock and it reads merely ten after 2, knowing that I have to go another 4 hours brings me to the edge of almost certain insanity. I feel like I have been here for days already. But I guess that is what happens when you work in a windowless office and deal with slow moving old folks all day... I think my craziness is from cabin fever.

Nevertheless, I cant help but think what group of psychos warmed to the idea of working 5 days a week 8-10 hours a day? There is no more 9-5 that was the corporate staple here in America (dont know about you guys on the other side). Now it is normal to be working 8:30-6:00pm.

I dont get it, who in their right mind went along with such nonsense? Who said, yeah that'll do, less time to for me, and more time working?

But regardless, I think that companies should either Shorten the work week by one day, or have you out of the office by 3-4pm. That one extra day off or 10-15 hours less a week would really benefit alot of people dont you think? i.e. less stress, more personal time etc.

I know currenty in places like texas and the such there are a few companies that are offering such felixiblity. And you know what, their employees arent burnt out and are in high minded moods and get alot more accomplished.

So which would you prefer? I'll take either one if you ask me. Having 3 days off would be nice, but I find it hard enough to motivate myself to back into the work mindset with 2 days off as it is now.

I think I would prefer leaving work by 3 and getting 2 days off.

Two threads already about a shorter working week smile

Today I agreed to work from home on Fridays. Same hours but no travelling so its a save to the environment (as my client likes that) and it means I can do my stuff as well as theirs.

Four day week but paid for five biggrin

I need MORE hours in a day not fewer.

I tend to go to bed around 1-2am, and then wake up tired. Another 3 hours on a day would suit me.

Can anyone slow the Earth's rotation down a bit please?

I have a friend like that. he works 90 hours a week and his life is in shambles. it all started when he married a girl with no ambitions and had a kid with her. now its do or die. I envy him though in regard to not laying down for the sake of his young son. I think I would have killed my wife a long time ago.

They recently got divorced, about 2 weeks ago.

Current contract has me working 4 days/week rather than 5...but still 40+ hours. However the quality of life is so much better...every weekend is 3 days off. Will be hard to go back to working Fridays!

I think that it's weekends which screw people up.

You work Monday - Friday. Up before 6am; so focussed on not going to bed too late.

Saturday morning you wake up at the same time as a weekday morning. Your body tries to do the 'lay-in' thing but is actualy screaming 'WTF are you doing to me'? It doesn't understand why you didn't get up.

Sunday morning your body knows that it should be in relax mode, but your sub-concious is already contemplating 'tomorrow'. Stress!

Monday morning your body is back to 'WTF' because it thought that it's now ok to stay in bed a couple of extra hours.

All this is way too much stress for the body and soul. Our bodies seriously dislike change and, if we do force it on them, we need to give the body time to get used to it and then run with it.

Whilst it may seem scary, you'd feel a lot better working for 21 days straight, then having the next ten off. Your body would get used to the work regime very quickly and would really benefit from the 'break' each month. Time enough to really switch off from work.

Much better for short breaks, hobbies etc too! smile

officially I am on a 37 hour week, my core hours are Monday to Thursday 9.30am until 3pm. and Friday's 9.30am -12.30pm. I am allowed to start anytime from 6.30 and finish as late as 6.30pm so some weeks I can just work these hours if I have enough in the bank.

we can accrue flexi hours and spend them when we want as long as the core hours are covered. Also we can take up to 5 full days or 10 half days as flexi holidays on top of your holiday entitlement.

The maximum you are supposed to have in the bank = 30 hours, then your manager is supposed to have words with you to explain the work life balance. I am at 99.99 hours as the system only counts up to this as a maximum. I think in the two years whilst I have been on flexi time I would be around 600 hours if the system would allow it.

We don't get overtime payments but I have always worked on the principle Management staff should be doing at 10% extra.
We have some people who use up every minute whilst others are like me and just use them when they need them.
