Thanks - I thought it looked good in the photos.

A few months ago a mate of mine got me off the the habit of taking it to the local hand car wash (he's got a black RS4 V6 and refuses to take it to one of those places). On his prompting I polished it once with Autoglym in the summer and I now hand wash it with one of their cleaning products once every couple of weeks. I was a bit sceptical to start but after six months of this the paint has come up nicely. So there you go.

The other reason of course is that Max did a great job with the pics and I guess with the post-production.

The location by the way was a hundred yards or so away from the Ace Cafe - big railway viaduct. Good spot.

I had a lot of fun that morning talking shop with Dan the journo and Peter from John Griffiths Mercedes

I need to get a copy before i go buying one, hear they have a few issues with gb's / and all the amg parts costing a small fortune - to be expected really but hoping its a little more hardy than my evo !

The gearboxes should have the fluid changed at 50,000 miles or so. For a while in the nineties and early naughties Merc decided that these boxes were "sealed for life". They have since changed their minds. My car is on 76,000 and has had the fluid changed twice by me and (I think) once by the previous owner. It's like engine oil - it's best to do it too often rather that too infrequently.

Parts can be expensive - but the guy in the guide from John Grifiths suggested using some pattern parts - eg Bilstein dampers - so shave a fair bit of cost off.

Have a look at the guide - it's a good summary

My local Merc dealer claims the 'box fluid change is an urban myth. I must buy that buyer's guide - does it mention the 'box fluid change as being officially recommended?

That was a great issue of Performance Car, read it cover-to-cover, rare for me that. Nice in-depth guide to the AMG as well.

I looked at one (C43 estate) a little while ago at a local car dealers. R plate, 80k miles, full dealer history etc. But boy was it rusty! Never seen anything like it. Arches and tail gate area were the worst. The rest of the paint work was awful to, could see the rubbing down marks from 10 feet away. Shame really as the interior looked like new and the history was spot on.

Great edition this month all round from the PC lads.

Since I seen the buyers guide I've been scanning Autotrader. I think its a car I might have a look at come change time next year.

Great cars - mine's totally rust free and that's what you really have to look out for.
