pain killers

is it ok to mix pain killers, eg I have a stonking headache, is it ok to take asprin and paracetamol / ibuprofren at the same time?

(Yes I know I spelt them wrong, my head hurts)

Can't mix asprin & ibuprofen, but paracetamol can be taken with either of them.

i think its ok to take paracetamol and asprin together not too sure about ibuprofen

Speak to a pharmacist and get some professional advice, not that some here are not professional medics, but get it straight from the “horses mouth” so to speak...that's the only advice I can offer

Yea i can't see why not i suffer from bad headaches sometimes if i don't wear my glasses and will take as many as need to kill the pain and will go stronger each time if i do not get desired effect

Grind up a few of each and rail them. Then your headache won't seem quite so important anymore.

my head hurts now, I'm miles away from a pharmacist and can't be arsed to find one

You can mix whatever you want. trust me. I have several friends who should be dead by now, but arent even close. The human body can withstand an enormous amount of abuse and rebound quite nicely I might add.

The best you will do over the counter is Paramol and then if that doesn't get the headache take Ibuprofen 2 hours later, then two hours after that more Paramol if needed.

Lotus is an idiot, Do NOT follow the advice.

Paracetemol and Ibuprofen are totally safe to mix. As are Asprin and Paracetemol. Don't mix Ibuprofen and Asprin though.

It's common practice for doctors to advise parents of babies to mix paracetamol (Calpol) and ibuprofen (Calprofen) - ie give alternating medicines every 2 hours to keep the tots topped up...

Whilst I will always defer to the advice of pharmacists, there is something to be said for the fact that prescribing guidelines err massively on the side of caution.

Protecting the prescriber and the NHS in general is not a minor part in that caution.

As it happens, there is some evidence to suggest that combining NSAIDs is actually beneficial, particularly in preventing strokes (in this case ibrupofen rapidly negates the downsides of aspirin).

Regardless, don't ask an internet forum for medical advice, ask your GP or pharmacist.
