Call me cynical but who thinks the recession will be used as a ploy by Labour to release a ton of 'economy boosting' money to the impoverished council house dwelling, sat tv watching / chain smoking, workshy masses.
I then predict an election will be called before the taxes need to go up to pay the borrowed cash back, before the interest rate resumes normal levels and the country is overwhelmed with rapidly rising unemployment and house repossessions.

It would not surprise me in the slightest if Gordon did. He is basking in his own self-image at present, and I think he'd do anything to maintain the illusion that he is some kind of global 'saviour'. The arrogant one-eyed tosspot.
The only consolation might be that, like last time, the population wised up eventually and Labour were buggered for a generation. Well, outside of some Northerntowns council estates that blame Thatcher to this day for everything.

tories to win need some simple policies
1.) benefits = coupons
2.) benefits = no sat tv
3.) benefits = you work on local council projects in recompence
4.) sickness benefits = if you can smoke = you can work on council projects
5.) imigrants if your house has 4 bedrooms it wasnt meant to house 20,000 of your close family
6.) imigrants = marriage does not guarantee you can bring your wife over and her 20,000 relatives to live in your 4 bed house

Did anyone catch Gordon Brown on the radio today, BBC Radio 2s Jeremy Vine show. He said that if you are unemployed for more than 13 weeks the government will pay your mortgage (at an interest rate). I didn't catch how that works.
Also, a caller called up and said he was having to work 6 days a week to pay his mortgage. A mortgage which he fixed for 5 years so wasn't seeing the benefit of the reduction in interest rates. Gordon Brown said leave your details and Gordon will get back to him and see what can be done for him! I can just see it now Gordo going to this guys bank and asking them to drop the rate for this one customer because he phoned up the Jeremy Vine show!

Had he been alive, I'm sure Harold Wilson would have given Golden Brown some ideas/clues on how to keep the country afloat.
After all, he did well in the 60's, never went to the IMF for handouts, or cancelled groundbreaking aeronautical developments because the Yanks said they'd make sure we got the cash if we bought a pile of their F1-11's.
Still, in 1975 there was an 83% top rate tax band. Good ol' Denis Healey. He had odd eyebrows too!
