fitting decats

How easy / hard is it to have the decats fitted on my Sag? I know mine are not rusted up as they were off the car last month at racing green.

It does not look difficult when I was under the car the other day but I don't want to mess around if it is better for a mechanic / exhaust fitter to to do it.

I may do it myself if I can get the car high enough up.

Hi Paul,

It's probably best you get someone to do it, as a bit of a maul.

Just make sure you have the correct diameters and length of the de-cats before you start.

Mine are off the car at present so I can measure them if you need, but they can and are different the later the car.


Mine were too long and needed 10mm cutting back to fit properly.

as you know mine is aou as late as it gets, I have the diameters but would like to know the lenght if you can get it easy enough.

Hopefully I will be in the UK long enough soon that I can dropby and see you.

Hi Paul, they are all 250mm long, but as Graham says other dimensions can vary. The mating flanges could be either 126.5mm OD or 129.5mm OD. The outlets could be either 54mm or 57mm OD.

I would have guessed the Saggy's dimensions would be 129.5 and 57mm, but with TVR being TVR who knows.

If you haven't bought any Decat pipes yet, I can heartily recommend NTEL's - I have them on my T350. They sound superb and are excellent quality.

Paul, A good guide when your car was made is date on the Dash ECU and the wiper motor assy.

Mine was October 05, exhaust were 2 1/4" then dropped to 2 1/8" around september 05 as far as I can see.

Sags are always a little awkward to make decat pipes for. Up to now I've done 1 set 129.5mm x 57mm, 1 set 129.5mm x 54mm and 1 set 126.5mm x 57mm. All different.

My Oct 2005 standard 4.0l Tuscan has 129.5mm x 54mm, so all later cars really need to be measured up first.

Joking aside, I do think the slightly smaller diameter exhaust system helps the power deleivery, seems to give it a little more low down torque.

Car is still at Macclesfield - till Friday this coming week.

My Sag is off to Hexham for it's winter service on 12th December and my intention was to get NTEL Decats fitted. Was 100% convinced after speaking to John at Zolder but have since had one or two doubts regarding noise levels. Knockhill in apparently introducing a 105dB limit and Nurburgring was 100dB in summer (3 x Tamaora's can vouch for that as they were barred) Sag registered 99dB @ 3500rpm / 1 metre.

So, $64,000 question - is it worthwhile decatting? Will I notice a difference other than noice levels?

Graham - did you develop a baffle for the Sag?

Tried own baffle but restricts power & too much back pressure

But with decat and bespoke 5 1/2" dia chrome ducati stle cans is 95dba

Graham, thanks for the advice, have contacted Tim for information. Do you have a picture of the cans? Friend also wishes to De-Cat is Sagaris, this is an ideal solution for noise reduction. Would both tail pipe diameters be the same or is it worth checking?

After going on the TITT run today and hearing some of the Speed 6's there I am definately going to get my Sag decatted - it is not loud enough . Is it an easy job to measure the exhausts etc. NTEL how much are your decats for a Sag - it is registered June 2006 if that helps...

A bit off topic guys but whats the ruling standards wise on fitting decats ? is it still legally allowed on the road or should i just shhhh?
