AJP V8 is definitely 'the' Engine to go for, however don't discount the Speed 6. There are far more companies doing development work on the S6 than there are on the AJP, with some of them offering 3 year warranties on rebuilt engines, and 430HP S6 engines are also available.
This is a very fair point,it's nowhere near the obvious choice it used to be.I'd be happy to own a speed six engine car again,if it had the bucket head conversion.I used to love the way mu 4.0 S6 drove in the tuscan, but i do also love the 4.5 V8 as well
The S6 was made to be a bit more road friendly.
I think it had different suspension.
I think it had different streeing lock to lock ratio.
And I think it also had a longer throttle to make it smoother.
All in all a nice car I believe.
Oh it also had a less powerfull engine.

All cerbs are epic, but the V8 cars more so. Now that there's some great SP6 engines being built (think tvr power, jason clegg) the SP6 powered cars are no longer the liability they once were, but there are those among us who still think a cerbera should have an AJP8 in it
Don't underestimate the costs of keeping a cerbera on the road though : typically 2 or 3 times what your chimaera will have been costing you. Many people would argue though that teh cost is entirely worth it for the unique experience

engine is often more powerful than the V8s ! Well used to be very often pre indies sorting ECUs etc.... They S6s tend to be consistent and close to the quoted BHP. V8s can be in low 300s often.
It is if you only look at the peak bhp figure, but everywhere else they lose out, our remapped 4 litre SP6 in the race T350 for instance was 100hp down on mike saunder's remapped ajp8 at 5500rpm : 260 for ours v 360 for his.I bought a S6 one year ago, because after looking at a lot of cerbs, this particular car was the best I had seen. It has the sports exhaust so sounds great. Many I looked at had really scruffy interiors, it seems they don't wear too well (or hadn't been cared for?) so just my personal choice was to buy a good one, a 2003,with full history and one that looked just perfect- it just happened to be a S6 but I have absolutely no regrets.

the running cost is something i have been warned about on the cerb, but thats to be expected you cannot really compare it to my chim. just need to locate a good car now!
Could also be a case of the luck of the draw. I've had mine since may 07. It's had a 6k service at £300 to date. It had done 54k with stacks of bills including Clutch etc. Now on 59k. Perhaps one with a healthy history and a higher mileage might be a good option if you're concerned about cost. I would imagine they'll all need work at some point though Edited by Mr M on Sunday 23 November 12:43
