eek

What a dip the market has taken.
For a car so ugly, an unknown over here, no pedigree and did I mention its so ugly I'd chew my arm off the morning after? Thats a fair price

I'm not trolling here, but besides the fact that you don't like the looks of the Falcon, what makes it so much worse than a Monaro / Commadore?
Are you sure you're not? The Monaro for 1 is a good looking car in the scheme of things, the XR6 plainly is not. The Monaro was an official import and has some good press backing but prices have tumbled of late, the XR6 has what pedigree? The XR6 has a largeish capacity engine but what does it actually bring to the table?

Drive the Ford and then the Commo back to back, and you will know. The AU Falcon was a disaster. Horrid styling, woeful build quality and ropey dynamics to cap it off.

That model, the AU was hammered in Oz due to the crap styling, however it was a good step up in handling and reliability.

Basically the falcon and commodore have fought it out over the years from the old days, Holden has pulled ahead recently mainly due to the better powertrain IMO.

So yes I think its good value, I think the engine is around 200kw so circa 270bhp, a nice spacey cruiser for family travel. Id be tempted if the older UK Holdens went getting close to those prices.

I have owned 2 falcon's in the UK including one in a photo I took which has done the rounds as it shows it in front of the old Wembley Stadium towers. I find they have a softer ride and larger interior in general. Though the VE I think changed the space availability to a more equal playing field. If that was £3k Id be tempted as a second car for the mrs smile

Back in Oz/NZ there is generally a strong split between those who would own a Commodore or a falcon, regardless of how good either one was. My passion was always Holden, but I have driven a good share of models of both cars. The AU xr6 falcon wasnt exactly the best looking imo but its spacious, pretty quick, drives well, and its not exactly a bad car for that money!
BTW - Has anyone noticed the 5 litre falcon ute on ebay?

Looks like a rover 75 with a celica front end. Not a fan of the looks tbh. My mate has the ute version in Oz though and says its fantastic.

Sorry, not an 04... the ugly AU was replaced by the much better looking BA in 02.

I had a BA XR6, shown in my "previously owned" page. Ex wife now has it. Not a bad car, but really just an average famly car (as is the Commodore)

The AU XR6 has no pedigree? Bold statement. I wont bother posting pictures of all its predecessors then, seeing as youre already an expert.

And are you taking age into account? Stacked up against the equivalent Holden 6 of the time, it wasnt too bad a handler and had some pace. It was a viable 6cyl alternative.

ETA: Worth nothing though, the WA coppers did stop using the AU for pursuit work, as there were incidents of the back windscreen dropping out under heavy cornering. yikes

you are posting on an English board about an obscure Australian car that we would never have heard of but for this forum. Likewise the Monaro carried no weight here and still doesnt other than by those that know of the car. Thats what I meant about no pedigree, meaning over here. Shocking about the rear window!

in years gone by....going back to 2002/03 I was service manager at a Ford dealership in Newcastle (OZ). Around this time Ford released the new BA range, now I'm a holden man through and through but I had to admit the BA wa a far better car than the VY commie at the time. The XR6 turbo was a particularly rapid vehicle with 245kw out of the single turbo 4.0 standard and massive tuning ability. Even the standard 6 cly was 185kw with it's twin overhead cammed VVT 4.0 (equal to the output of the 5.0 V8 SS commie pre LS1).
Unfortunately Ford seem to be the heavy-hitters at home in the V8 supercars at the moment too.
