It's not really my cup of tea.

I think it looks overly complicated, a bit like it's trying too hard to look like it was made for some kind of special forces for millionaires with those elaborate pusher guards.

That's a lot of lolly for something that's less durable and less attractive than a G-shock you could get for a hundred notes.

Some of the AP Royal Oaks are really nice.

This one isn't.

If I wrap that round my fist and punch a wall, I assume for that price, it will look in pristine condition. What? Why would I hit something that hard with that kind of impact? Because an active lifestyle can invariably involve falling off things and slamming against hard things.

Hi Dominic, I guess you are testing the water slightly and want an honest opinion...

I think it rather perverts Gerald Genta's amazing original design one step too far.
I'm all for evolution but....not to this degree.
Blackened unobtanium all very technically interesting etc but looks like plastic in the photo.
The pusher guards are interesting but I don't like them.
I like the dial though. That gets a thumbs up, but overall too fussy and overstyled, IMHO. Remember the original design?

Compare and contrast with a more original version that is rather nice.





I can understand the appeal to certain individuals but 1000 pieces isn't a proper limited edition is it really in all honesty?
But as it's probably not designed for anal watch enthusiasts like some of us so it will probably do well...but $36k is heavy money...are there 1000 buyers out there for this right now? I wonder

Not my cup of tea at all I'm afraid. Elegance is important for me. Big rugged watches can still have a certain elegance to them, but this is just such a shift away from the simple classic shape of the Royal Oak Offshore too far.

Interesting comments. I just posted it out of curiousity, as I came accross it on another forum.
I totally agree it has zip to do with the original design by Gerald Genta. Yes, it is another in a long line of Ltd Ed AP ROO's, and quite a staggering production run to boot.

Put it this way, if I managed to bag the Euromillions lottery jackpot and found myself at Club 55 spraying Pol Roger over Ukranian good time girls. I'd be wearing this, a loud pair of vilbrequin and a smile!

A bit vulgar IMO. It's some sort of faux-'special forces' military watch with NONE of the credibility of a *real* special forces watch. Very expensive too for a 1000 edition, which isn't that limited, and the pusher guards look silly, and really don't look like they'd do the job - too easy to get them caught on something by the looks of things, which would be a bit of a pain if you really were fighting in a jungle environment...

I'd be surprised if the mechanical movement could withstand proper shocks as well, e.g. if the wearer was practising the martial arts (as shadowninja points out). It's the lack of credibility that ruins it for me, really. The original RO was superb (I very nearly bought one) but the ROOs are becoming a caricature of themselves...

Come on chaps, you're taking this far too seriously. I don't think for one second that any explorer or secret agent will being swapping their issue watch for one of these. These will be be seen on the Cote D'Azur/Courcheval/Miami/Vegas/rap video/every FI paddock in the '09 season....

Apologies for being a crashing snob As soon as something becomes popular with the 'gangsta rap' community, it's off my shopping list... (as if I could afford that ROO in the first place )
